I chose Windows 7 Ultimate, because quite frankly, Windows 8 Pro and 8.1 Pro are useless on a desktop... might work ok on a tablet with a touchscreen, but for a desktop I will take Windows 7 anyday over Windows 8

Just curious...what use do you have for 32Gb of RAM?
I disagree about Windows 8. I run 8.1 and using Start8 is looks and feels just like Windows 7, except it performs much better. One example is playing the game Battlefield 4: way better CPU useage and much more FPS. It's a big debate, and there's nothing wrong with Win 7, but neither is there with Win 8 (it just adds touch functionality which you are free to ignore). Honestly, it's just like Win 7 if you want it to be. |

Unless your doing some serious graphics work (3D/Video) you only need 8GB RAM for gaming/everyday use but 16GB to future proof it a little bit. Also, many here would recommend Samsung SSD & WD HDD over Corsair & Seagate. For long term service like your previous system, I'd recommend ditching the H100i and going with the Noctura cooler - less parts to fail over time (just a fan). Both will cool the CPU the same amount. The ODE case uses large fans already so no need to upgrade case fans - I believe there's one empty fan slot that you could have filled, though...
As far as OS goes - Win8 is the future and at some point you will have to move to it. Win8/Win8.1 are the only OSs to be able to fully utilize DirectX 11.1 & 11.2 is only for 8.1 and no other Win OS supports it. BF4 and future games will take advantage of this. You also don't need a "Pro" version to run 16-32GB RAM as the regular version is fully capable of it already. DirectX 11.2 Edited by fstcvc - 06 Nov 2013 at 9:22am |
