FYI,

I have an old (5yrs) HP pavilion that's I use for odds/ends. About a month ago it started having problems turning on. Its A/C is connected through a Power Surge system which allows turning off individual items. Normally I just use WIndows shutdown and leave the A/C on. Well I found out that if I turned off the A/C to the system it would take a number of times turning on/off before it started. Last night I had to turn off the A/C, reconfiguring my periperals and today it would not start at all.
OK I figured I'd check the PSU. DIsconnected it an did the Power Good test by jumpering the green wire to the black and Cool the PSU is good.
Well I figured it's probably the motherboard or something on it and now I would have to use it for spare parts.
Big%20smile Then I remembered reading that the Power Good signal was a pulse, not a constant. So I replaced the PSU, turned the A/C on, it did not start, SO I used a paperclip (sharpened) to momentarially jumper the Power Good. The system started and is running fine. Needless to say, I hope I don't have to disconned the A/C cord again.
Geek I would not recommend doing this, without disconnecting the drives and removing added cards.
BUT to test if it is the motherboard and not old age, you could do this test after disconnecting the drives and removing the added cards. Broken%20Heart
