Looking for the best bang for the buck. I am replacing 5 yr old velomicro amd 4000 with 2 ea 7800 gtx in sli. Want a good computer that is upgradeable to new direct x 11 stat when those cards become plentiful (hello invidia....we're waiting...). My budget is, as usual, cheap as possible but I can spend around $2000; give or take a hundred if it makes sense. Need to buy soon (like today), I am using my wife's computer now; and it is SSSSLLLLLLOOOOOOWWWWWW. |

The higher the resolution, the more powerful the video card/cards required for max settings. 1920x1080 should be ok with a 5870 whereas 1360x768 would be ok with a much less expensive option. |

Dst4me, do you think it will be worth the wait; is the performance going to just blow away the ati cards or not really? I know I am asking you to look at a crystal ball here; but just wondering..... |

the answer to that depends on each person alone, for me and my use yes its worth it, yes they will be more powerful then the ati cards.
if you can wait I would wait, if nothing else at all just to see how they do and the prices, plus when they come out the prices of ati cards should go lower. |

ok, some more crystalballing... has ds historically offered better sales nearer christmas / new years than we have right now? Also, what monitor in the 20"-24" range would you recommend to use at 1920x1080?

I don't recall to be honest with you.
for 1900 x 1200 a good 24" should be good, the Dell UltraSharp U2410 seems to be a good one, look for a monitor that has the same Viewing Angle, both vertical and horizontal, and is at or above 170°, this is a sign of a quality panel on a monitor, assuring great picture quality.
