I am going to put together a (for me) real monster of a PC from DS -- my third in 12 years -- but I have a couple of quick questions and would very much appreciate guidance:
- I'm a flight simmer. I don't want to mess with triples and want to preserve the ability to go VR but I do not want VR to be my only good option for gaming/simming. For this reason, I have decided to build this rig "from the monitor downwards" and might go as big as 34", 3440 x 1440p resolution, 4ms, 120Hz overclocked refresh rate, NVIDIA G-Sync, the whole nine yards. What would be the minimal nVidia gfx card setup that would get me at least 60 fps? Please note that I have never used 2x gfx cards and am assuming a single 1080 could handle this but please advise. - I don't need to be part of the Christmas rush. I could wait until early in the new year. Is there any tech on the horizon worth waiting for or should I dive in now with the available cips/cards/cpus, etc.? - Is there any DS case which, as you look at it from the front, can have the window on the left (i.e. if you stand behind the case the window is on the right)? Many thanks, gents, as usual. |

Its great that you are back for more. Actions speak volumes. As to your questions, the GTX 1080Ti will provide all the graphics oomph to use that monitor maxed out on all right now. Flight Simulator (FS) might take advantage of sli and if so it won't hurt to get 2 cards. The RTX 2080 and RTX 2080Ti are the next evolution of graphic cards but not all games are written to fully utilize them (ray tracing). You can get them but ..... Don't know enough about FS and cpu/gpu requirements to know which cpu is best for you. That new i9-9900K is sweet and the 9980XE is ....... expensive. ![]() As to window orientation, you want the Lumos. Looking at the front of the pc, the window is on the left and mobo is right side up w/gpus on the bottom. The Velox and Aventums are the opposite, the window is on the right side (looking at the front of the pc) and mobos are inverted. Others will hopefully correct me and set you straight but this should give you something to read until the real gurus show up. Good luck. Edited by hoserator - 18 Oct 2018 at 12:31pm |

Many thanks for the helpful response, hoserator. I've never had two cards in SLI before and I'm just wondering if, given all of the above, there's any reason for me to start now...

It really depends on FS. I have always used sli and never had issues but some do. It's easy to add a card if necessary after you get the pc.
