Seems like you used an old ticket number to configure. They don't offer
the EVGA x58 LE anymore. Start fresh with a new config, don't use old
ticket numbers.
I wouldn't recommend the the HAF 912, it's really lacking in fans. The HAF 922 is only $11 more. If you can deal with going a tad over budget, try this: Ticket #470061, Price: $1886 ($1792 with current discount) Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - HAF 922 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth X58 (Intel X58 Chipset) (Features USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 750W Digital Storm Certified (Dual SLI Compatible) (Silent Edition Recommended) Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (40GB Solid State (By: Intel) (Model: X-25V Edition) (Extreme Performance) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (1TB Hitachi/Seagate (7200 RPM) (32MB Cache) Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 1.2GB (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 1: Noctua NH-U12P SE Dual 120mm Fans High Performance Cooler H20 Tube Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks Boost Processor: FREE: Stage 1: Overclock the processor between 3.3GHz to 3.9GHz (Cooling Upgrade Recommended) Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows 7 CD) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: FREE: Hot-selling game with a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 or above graphics card Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: FREE: Digital Storm T-Shirt - Black (Large) Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: FREE PROMO: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 4 Year Limited Warranty If you can't swing that much over budget, well.. drop the GPU selection then. Yea sorry about the old ticket number, I have been looking and modifying, changing, etc for a little over a month, Yea the setup looks good.
A few questions as I am pretty computer dumb. However, Im trying to become a more informed consumer.
How much difference between the GTX570 and 470 graphics and FPS wise?
ASUS vs EVGA?
Do the Chasis come with fans and the stage1, stage2 are additional or the chasis allow for the space to put the upgraded cooling?
Thank you for your help and quick response.

small interjection.. dragoon did you mean to have a 2TB drive in there? taking that to 1 TB can shave off another 60some bucks, much closer to budget
the 570 is surely more powerful than a 470... and at its current price point its only i think $140 more? very worth it if you are building a gaming rig.
asus vs evga, motherboards i assume you mean? for a budget build the sabertooth is getting a lot of praise from DS, id stick with that right now
the haf932 comes with all its fans, its quiet and moves a good amount of air, no worries or need for upgraded cooling here

Something around 30% more GPU muscle in a 570, if I remember right?
Ick, I certainly didn't, good catch, lemme edit that post. |

Is that 40GB enough for games and everything, its gonna cout it close IMHO, maybe he should upgrade to ssd later, or go with a 80GB now

It's more than enough for OS/apps. After that you'll have like 15-20GB to play with, which you could fit a game or two on if you wanted to, or you could just leave it be.
Games would go primarily on the HDDs, not the SSD. |

Thanks again for your speedy responses. Take a look. I dropped the Graphics card to the 470. Price to me is more appealing and makes it easier to get the loan from my bank (wife). Plus this is a HUGE upgrade from my laptop with a nvidia 9300m 512mb.
40GB SSD for now again because of the price difference. Everything is upgradable in the future. This being my first custom Rig I think im pretty happy with the selected options so far.

the difference between the 470 and 570 is basically the cost of your 40gb ssd, dragoon may clash helmets with me here, but i say drop the ssd for the 570 if what you are after is 'any and all games at very high settings'
both are good cards, just keep in mind the benefit of an SSD is read/write, so applications, save/load/open/boot times decrease, but actual game fps will change little to none
if you do more that depends on fast read/write, like media editing, data processing, application (not game) based productivity, the SSD could be the better choice

You keep selecting the 1TB Western Digital HDD and forgetting to select the free 4 year warranty upgrade. There is no appreciable, if even measurable, difference between a WD, Hitachi, or Seagate 1TB HDDs, especially when it's just a media storage drive. You can save $25 with the Hitachi/Seagate selection.
Also keep in mind the additional 5% discount that is applied during checkout. That $1886 config I recommended above is only $1792 after the discount, keeping you under your $1800 budget, in case that slipped by you (just making sure). I really think the 570 is worth the extra $100, but if the wifey says no then the wifey says no, I guess. EDIT: Got Ninja'd. That jerk. But yes definitely agreed for a "any and all games at very high settings" rig with Crysis mentioned, you want that 570. I wouldn't want to give up the SSD for it though since you can have both for under $1800, but that's just me. Edited by Dragoonseal - 17 Dec 2010 at 11:59pm |

While there are minimal performance differences, the quality of each drive varies. I wont touch Seagate until the fix their high failure rates, Hitachi is proving to make more reliable drives now than they did before, and Western Digital, cant go wrong with the Black drives. Thank you for all your comments,
Here is the build I think Im going to go with. The only thing I was questioning is the downgrade I made with the cooling. Is it enough for this system?

Even the stock CPU cooler is "enough", but the worse the cooler the worse the overclock you get from DS will end up being. It's not really worth skimping on a good CPU cooler, a higher overclock can give you a lot of additional power for very cheap.
Also some coolers are a lot louder than others, especially the cheapy ones. I'd recommend a Noctua NH-U12P, very good cooler, extremely quiet, good price. |

Change your psu to the corsair 750w, and I would go with Noctua NH-U12P cooler, dragon is right, you don't want to skip that.
you can always add a ssd later, gen 3 of intel ssds are gonna be out in a couple of month, why don't you just go with a 1TB HDD as HDD1 now, and then in a couple of month drop in a intel gen 3 ssd as HDD1 and push the 1TB to HDD2 for storage. you can clone the 1TB to the ssd and move os/apps/games and all in 1 shot. you can follow my clone guide here |
