Desktop: No mobile travel (yet powerful)
 
Laptop: Mobile (take it anywhere) (more expensive).

Desktop: powerful and cheaper if have same spec. with the laptop, always good at gaming and has huge screen if you want an 30". Don't have to worry about heat much. easy to replace the part.

Laptop: expensive, not as fast as good desktop, it runs HOT, small screen, sucks at gaming...if something wrong you have to send it back to manufacture cause you cannot replace the parts (except memory and hardrive)

It just depends. If you won't ever need to take it anywhere, get a desktop. If you need it to be mobile so you can take your computer places, then a laptop.
