Hey guys, I am so very close to finally customizing my DS masterpiece
. However, I am very confused by all the different chassis models. I can tell that there are differences other than just looks. But I couldn't find any description or explanation any where. Does anyone know which model is best to use? From a general viewpoint, airflow, external fan control, and so on. Any info would be greatly appreciated!Edited by Cerberus - 07 Jun 2011 at 1:43am |

HAF X 942 - Best airflow, has 200+mm fans. You can fit Liquid cooling set up in this case.
Hailstorm - Great for Liquid cooling, has tons of room for hoses, pump, and radiator.
Assassin - Great air cooling, mobo flipped 90 degrees for pushing heat through the top.
Syndicate - Great air flow, has tons of room for Liquid cooling. Enthusiast case imo.

haf x for sli air cooled system.
hailstorm (corsair 800d, also my case) for LC system on both cpu/gpu. the Syndicate can be cramped, the Assassin is ok but here for cheaper you can get same/better airflow from haf 922/932/942 or the corsair 600t white version with extra fans added. fan control is bs as it wil not control all your fans, the 600t however does control its own fans and comes with that fan controller. if you are looking at sli sytem on air, I would go with haf 942. if its sli with LC on cpu/gpu, then hailstorm. if its gonna be a single gpu system, then haf 922 or the 600t white version. (must be white version, as the it comes with the side grill so that you can add extra 4 x 120mm fans for great airflow). thats my 2cents

Here's the deal though, I'm getting an intel core i7, overclocked 4.0 to 4.40 GHz. and I'm using SLI, probably NVIDIA GTX 560 Ti, 470, 480, or something like that. For "Extreme Cooling" Would you say that I need LC or air cooling? Either way, I should upgrade the "Chassis Airflow", yeah?

that oc is not high for the 2600k, its a good spot.
I would not go sli 470/480, don't even go with the 4xx models, they run warmer and use more power, stick with 570 sli which will give you same/better as sli 480 and do it cooler and with less power. extreme cooling means stage 4 cooling or higher, if that is what you want, but you don't need it. forget chassis airflow upgrade, either go air cooled and get a good case with good air flow or go LC on cpu/gpu and you don't need fan upgrade. |

But a 470 uses the same power as 570, same consumption but a 570 is better yeah. I see that 480 uses more though.
I think you might have misunderstood me on my question on extreme cooling. I meant, when customizing a DS desktop, the option extreme cooling contains multiple options from Stage 1 through 6, both air and LC. I was just wondering how far I should go considering my processor and dual SLI cards. |

One more thing, I was considering a 560 Ti to use as dual card. It uses the least power, and is very excellent compared to 4xx and 570. Considering both price and performance, wouldn't you say it's a good way to go?

for res of 1900 x 1200 570 is best, for lower res 560 ti is fantastic. Also sli 560 is ok this year, what happens when future games need more power?
the cooling is dependent on what you want to cool. if its just cpu, go stage 4. if you want gpu and you have one gpu its stage 6 cpu and single video card, if you got cf/sli its cpu and dual video cards. once you hit stage 4, the only think that changes are number of wb for gpus and possibly rad size. 570's power usage:

I see, these stages seem a bit over the top though :( a bit pricey. Especially stage 6 which starts at $670 and up.

Cerberus,
I just got a DSO system with a HAF X and Stage 3 LC (just cpu). i couldn't be happier with ether, although if you want to go farther with liquid cooling, the HAF X may not be the best choice as all radiators are designed for 120mm fans and the HAF X uses 200mm. that being said, it has tons of room for anything you want to put into your computer. as far as price, liquid cooling is EXPENSIVE! do some research online and check out the prices of trying to do it yourself, in my opinion its worth DSO only adding on a fraction of the cost to have them do it for you and then you don't run the risk of inadvertently damaging your hardware. |
