To hell with trick-or-treating, this is the true spirit of Halloween. This is how Halloween is meant to be enjoyed. Rolled up in your chair, looking over your shoulders, screaming at the slightest of sounds. Doesn’t this sound fun! Check out our list of the most blood-curdling video games and give Halloween the respect it deserves.

While not on Halloween, I did recently play through Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. It wasn't really "scary" but it did fit the spooky-theme.

I have Friday the 13th, got it free through PS+, but haven't played it yet. I used to be a huge fan of the earlier Friday the 13th movies in all their campy glory, so I felt like it was worth pressing the free download button for the game. Big%20Smile

I played Hollow Knight myself. Not horror in any way but dark and atmospheric with grim music.A lot of fun though.

Undying scared the living daylights out of me when I played it.  It's an old FPS game if you can find it.

It isn't a horror, but quite disturbing - Sanitarium.

It is over 15 years old, but still giving me chills.

Whenever I want a good scare in a computer game, I go to Alien: Isolation or one of its DLC add on games. Still good. Very atmospheric and induces some serious terror at the right moments!

There are several games from Frictional Games that I recommend for the Halloween season:

01. Penumbra: Overture
02. Penumbra: Black Plague
03. Penumbra: Requiem

In addition to the games, it's important to follow the games suggestions, such as wearing headphones, adjusting the monitor, and darkening the room. If you can play at night -- all the better.

The Amnesia franchise is another a good prospect for a frightful good time.

Resident Evil Village: This survival horror game follows Ethan Winters as he confronts grotesque monsters and a mysterious village. It's known for its intense action and atmospheric horror.
