Topic: Best monitor for single GPU?Posted: 19 Jul 2009 at 4:46pm |

I was wondering if anyone could advise me on what kinds of things I should consider when purchasing a new monitor. I put in an order for a new DS last Thursday, and I want to make sure I pick up a monitor that can make it look as good as possible on my budget (probably between $200-$300). My DS will have a single Geforce GTX 285 2GB GPU. What kind of monitor should I get for optimal resolution? What brands are the best? Does anyone have any suggested models I should buy? This is the first PC I have ever bought, so I really do not know what I need to get the most out of my system. Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

you should call then and change your GPU to a 275 896MB version and save your money, no matter if you have the 275 I mentioned or the 285 2GB version, they both perform the same, difference is like 4 fps, both those cards can run a 1600 x 1200 resolution with high settings in games, for higher then that you will 2 GPUs.

Thanks for the help guys. harleyman thanks for the link, that does
look like a good monitor. I know that any monitor will work, its just
that I have read that if you get a monitor that is too big for your vid
card you might get some small text at higher res, and I just want to
avoid that if possible...but I guess for my budget I don't need to
worry about getting one that is too big lol.

Unlike you on don't advise based on what I think and my singular experience, I advised based on real time tests, opinions are dime a doesn't, and how many times do I have to show you that sharing ram with CPU in these systems is like talking about a dime in respect to a million dollars, in other words sharing GPU ram with CPU means nothing and produces no big effect if any.
if on high settings (8x aa, 16x af) you are getting over 60fps, you are getting a quality picture aka smooth and fluid game play. anybody that knows the basics about gaming knows that much, and 30 fps is playable not completly smooth, 60 fps is completely smooth. Just because your mommy still tucks you in, it does not mean everybody else is having the same thing, there you go thinking everything is like your own singular experience again ![]() Edited by DST4ME - 20 Jul 2009 at 3:00am |
