Ok... im buying a new powerhouse.... cant make up my mind.... GTX280 or 4870X2.... cant get a clear answer on which is best... Ive always used Nvidia my entire life, but i heard hte 4870X2 benchmarks higher. But then some sites say the GTX280 benchmarks higher....
So... Which should I get? GTX280 or 4870X2?
Also can 2x 4870X2's run on a 1000W power supply? (i know the GTC280's can)
(Im sure this has been asked before, but cant find anything on it, and I really cant make up my mind!)

I like the idea of less card and more power ati vs nvidia is an endless argument. With the gtx 295 so close the comparison should be go gtx295 or 4870x2. or 4870 vs gtx 280. In both cases personally I would go nvidia but to each his own. Comparing gtx280 to 4870x2 is like comparing 1 green apple to two red apples.

Ok... i looked at them and im for SURE going to wait for them...
If i got SLI with those.... should i get both liquid cooled? or is that more of a overkill / overclocking thing?
Im going to get my CPU liquid cooled for sure.... but is the GPU's worth it? Since im not goin to OC the GPU's?

even if you do OC the GPU, LC will be too much headache for you and overkill, and if you ever choose to upgrade GPU, with LC you have to send it to DS, VS you just doing it yourself in 2 minutes.

Unless you want the latest and greatest every six months, do as dst3me mentions or in my case with my build, I can live with my rig for a few years until do some serious upgrading...

Ya... i mean.... my budget is around 4000... but then if those GTC 295s arnt the greatest right off the line... then ill have to keep sending my Comp to DS... so he has a good point....
But im shopping for a Powerhouse that will last me a couple years also!

np there! I could second guess my original config until I pull my hair out, but I am content with what I have for a while. At the time I got my rig, I was frustrated with my old rig and lack of support that I bit the bullet and got a DS system which is the smartest move I have made. Will be saving up a few grand for my next DS rig!

Hard OCP says that the 4870x2 is a better bang for you buck than the GTC295. It some games it even beats it. go with ATI. Here is the article link: http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTYwOCwxMSwsaGVudGh1c2lhc3Q=

there are plenty of sites to dispute that. plus the prices of the gtx 295 will go down to be competitive with ati anyways.
