So, I had an issue where my computer would just randomly completely shut down, as if the power cord were just pulled from the wall. After speaking with a tech at DS, we diagnosed it as a heat issue. My cpu is overclocked with a liquid cooler, the tech felt that the cooler might not be working properly. He shipped a new one out, which arrived yesterday.
I installed the new cooler and reassembled everything. I booted up, and everything seemed to be working fine. I ran the temperature monitoring software, then ran a program that taxes the cpu to 100% (something with the word "prime" in it"). A few seconds later, my temp spikes to 88c, and the computer abruptly shuts off.
Normally, the computer would start back up, and after a long bootup it would work. Now, when I restart it, it doesn't boot up at all. All the fans and lights and whatnot are working, but no boot up.
I'm scared something got cooked. Any ideas of what to do? I called tech support, but they were working with other people and couldnt get back to me before closing time. Monday they will call, but that means I miss a day of work.
Any help is appreciated,
Anthony

@adegiulio,
I am sorry that you have having this issue.
The system shouldn't turn off at 88'C under full 100% load. When your system goes to 90'C on full load while being overclocked is usually when temps are getting a little too high.
I believe your power supply might be going out, and it may not be your computer. This is usually a rare feat, but, it can happen.
I also think that when you were removing the cooler, that the video card or memory sticks may have loosened up a little which may be causing the system not to boot either.
I would recommend doing the following things:
1. Remove the side panel off the computer, and disconnect any case lighting you may have. (This draws a lot of power from your PSU).
2. Then, try to boot it up. If it doesn't POST (which means that the fans/etc are spinning but you are getting no video signal) check your monitor cables first and what source you have your monitor on.
3. Depending on what motherboard you have, you may be able to reset the CMOS by pressing a button after you turned on the computer. This will remove the overclock, see how that works out.
4. If it still does not boot, I would recommend removing all the memory sticks and trying to bootup your system with one stick at a time in each memory slot.
5. If that still does not work, place one stick in any slot, and then re-seat your video card(s) from their slots.
6. If that still does not work, remove any extra PCI cards such as sound cards, tv tuners, wireless cards, etc from the system and try again.
7. If that still does not work, your PSU may just have given up. If it is a modular power supply, then it'll be fairly easy to swap one out since you won't have to undo any of the wiring inside the chassis.
Hope this help! That's usually the steps they will have you go through on Monday.

OK, after pulling the side of the case off, I pressed firmly on the video cards, removed all the memory, and reinstalled one stick. It fired up no problem (actually seemed to boot more quickly). I then shut down, reinstalled the next stick, and rebooted. Perfect. Repeated, and everything works fine...
Reminds me of my old Camaro. Often times all that was necessary to get her running was taking it apart, not finding anything wrong, and reassembling. I guess one of the memory sticks was loose or something, but now everything seems fine.
Kudos to you Alex. I appreciate your prompt and informative response. Now, go have some fun, it's Saturday!
