I'll have to check it out, free download? Or just buy it?

use ESET Smart Security, it has a 30 day full free trial, try it first then buy a license after 30 days is one of the best if not the best.
make your settings like this: |

I recently did trials of NOD32, ZoneAlarm, Norton 2010 and BitDefender. Had some noticeable slows with ZoneAlarm. NOD32 was good and fast and I was very impressed with the new Norton - much better than in the past.
I eventually settled on BitDefender as one criteria I have is that I want to be able to have good control over my kids' PC; and not just parental controls. I want to be able to block them from sending certain words such as phone number, address, etc. BitDefender has that feature, plus I can see the status of the a/v, firewall, etc from my PC via a home network tab (including launching a scan).
Whatever product you decide on try it before you buy.
