Topic: Black Friday Sale looks like a scam....Posted: 25 Nov 2010 at 10:24pm |

What's going on here? I get an email today telling me about the 15% off and free 5 yr warranty and the other freebies that are always avaialble. So I go to my basic layout which I've been looking at for quite some time and what do I see, its gone up 100 dollars between yesterday and today.
This is before I even make my customizations. So it went up 100 dollars in 24hrs right in time to conincide with the 15% off. WTF?
Hey DS, this might be the one thing to make me say forget it and go elsewhere.
I hope you have an explanation for this...
Why did the base price of this desktop go up 100.00?

From what ive heard its supply and demand on the 580s, I do however find it funny as well that they just happen to up the price on them the day before their event. So basically you arent really gaining much from the extra 5%, its just a glorified 10%
I couldnt take advantage of the sale even if I wanted to, banks closed and anything over 1000$ I need them to go into their system and let the payment go thru lol Edited by ghost - 25 Nov 2010 at 10:44pm |

Ghost, you are exactly right. I went back and removed the GTX580 and it went down about 675 rather than 575 from what it was yesterday...oh well...
Anyway, they pop up the price of the video card by over 20% and take off 5% of the base price...Its an even swap...MARKETING...
I still think it was questionable....

ugh posts like this are so annoying
its like after years of successful business and great reviews you cracked the case and figured out DS is a scam!!! lol
alex already posted here that the 580 was going up in price
plus even if he hadnt posted this update, im not sure if youve ever looked around before, but exactly what you described is pretty much what any business that uses the word "sale" or "deal" does.. not news, its telling people exactly what they want to hear, retail101

If you are looking at a configuration that has a GTX 580, the card's selling price has gone up in the past few days due to low supply and high demand. Distribution has increased their price on that model. I actually made a post about this recently. All of the component distributors including EVGA have bumped their prices on these cards on the day before Thanksgiving because they don't have enough cards to sell for the demand that would be coming on 'Black Friday' and the weekend.
We're not making anything extra because of the price increase on these cards. If we didn't increase the price on the cards, and we had a ton of orders come in on Black Friday with them, then we would have lost 15% off the order, be liable for a 5 Year Limited Warranty, and on top of that, lost an additional $100 per card on the order. We would've been loosing money to sell the systems which wouldn't be fair. We do have bills to pay, employees wages, rent, utilities, marketing costs, etc... If you change to a different graphic card, you'll see the savings. The GTX 580's are just very tight in demand, I'm sorry. In the end, We're making this a special sale with the 15% off discount and free 5 year warranty. I hope you take advantage of it as we would love to earn your guy's business and show you the Digital Storm difference.

@!ender
What's even more annoying is someone who doesnt know the difference between "Sale" and a "marketing ploy". And the getting berated by someone like you on their forums which considering your "veteran" status (thats a laugh) is only doing them harm by insulting their potentional customers.
You have 3871 posts here on the DS forums genius. I bet you get out a lot. We are all happy to know you read every f'ing post that comes down the pike.
And since you have comprehension problems, allow me to direct you to the title of this post. It says the Black Friday sale is a scam, not the the entire company. This is what people like yourself do when they barely have an argument or go fishing for one when there shouldbt be one. They globalize their statement putting words in people mouths and take it to an emotional level.
Get a life.
