I see it comes with subzero default..
Is this specifically just the CPU? nothing more? Edited by zangetsu - 28 Feb 2011 at 9:43am |

My understanding is that the TEC is only connected to the CPU, with the GPUs being the standard LC. Although I haven't read up enough to be 100% sure.

It's only the CPU because we haven't been able to completely cover the video card(s) or chipset to prevent condensation from forming.

just be aware the tec cooling has a 1k watt psu for itself plus the psu that you need for your rig... that can be a lot of power. in some cases like older wiring systems it can overload the circuit and pop lights go out. so you need to know how much power is already on the circuit and how much you plan to add as well as the circuits max load.

What does that information help me with? lol..
@ Alex - thats pretty expensive considering you can only have it on the CPU and nothin else? 6000$ for only a CPU cooling system? Why are the selections for GPU and chipset still on the drop down menu for selecting LC? Edited by zangetsu - 01 Mar 2011 at 4:22am |

I'm sure this has been answered before, but this forum only goes 3 pages back...
Why is it that if you copy the exact build off the TEC Black Ops system, for lets say a HAF Case... it comes out to 2000$ cheaper? Intel 990x 6core ASUS rampage mobo 1200W corsair PSU 7200 WDC 64mb cache HDD 2x 580 cards Subzero CPU/Chipset cooling? I'm not sure i can see the difference.... |

You can't config the tec with haf case, you are making a mistake with the cooling options.
I hope those are not the parts you want to go with, cause thats a waste of your money. Edited by DST4ME - 02 Mar 2011 at 1:02am |

no you didn't. The T.E.C. is a cooling system, not offered in the plastic CM case. It has nothing to do with any of the PC components, it is just a cooling system.

Ok so im paying 1000$ extra for the case... ? Alex just stated the TEC case can only have subzero LC on the CPU only. So how is that a 1000$ difference if i were to spec the HAF case with subzero CPU cooling only? How can no one explain that? Its not rocket science i just wanna know why there is such a huge difference in price when you CAN get the same cooling on the HAF case? |

Its two different kinds of cooling systems, I can see your confusion though, after looking at the configurator. Sub-Zero is used as a term in both cooling systems. However, in the TEC system, the CPU can actually achieve below zero temperatures. While in the standard liquid cooling system, which is what you have on the HAF, its just a "name" for the liquid-cooling that DS installs, it does not achieve the temperatures of the TEC system.
As mentioned, the TEC cooling system effects only the CPU, and can only be installed on the Hailstorm and Syndicate cases. Edited by Tidgxor - 02 Mar 2011 at 3:01pm |

Happy to help.
Digital Storm may want to consider adding "TEC" somewhere in the drop-down box of the configurator, or something to diffrentiate a little more between the two cooling systems. I know they outline the differences elsewhere, but in the configurator itself, I definitely see how it could be easy to confuse the TEC Sub-Zero, vs standard Sub-Zero. @zangetsu, regular subzero LC is just a liquid cooling system.
TEC is ThermoElectric Cooling, its able to cool temps much more, read more about it here. now so far they have been able to cool only the cpu with the tec without problems, but not the gpus.' the tec itself cost a good amount, so that is why the price is so different. I can understand your confusion, I don't know why they use the word subzero in both coolings, but one has the word "Chilled" in it and one does not, if you don't see that word then the cooling is not tec. I wish I would've known that before I upgraded to stage 6 on my hailstorm rig, although I probably couldn't afford to cool the GPUs with the extra costs. I agree that there should be a more clear distinction between the two to prevent future customer bankruptcy.
PS. How much extra would it cost to get TEC from normal stage 6? Sorry, but customer service is so good I can't help but toss money at you guys, lol. Edited by Clusta - 02 Mar 2011 at 8:47pm |

Well all the info definitely cleared it up..definitely had me wondering why.. lol. I wasn't doubting DSO at all, but i was just trying to figure out the exact reason that set up was more.

@Clusta, contact them directly for price quotes, they don't do that on the forum.
