Can anyone tell me the difference between the BlackOps Hailstorm vs. Corsair 800d cases?  Did DS make any upgrades to the Hailstorm vs. the 800d?

Specifically speaking in terms of fans.  Did they add the 3 additional fans to the top of the chassis?  I am finalizing my build and debating on whether or not to upgrade the fans.  I don't necessarily need lights on the fans, but I do want fans in all of available slots.

I would contact DSO but instant chat is down and they're not open yet.

On a side note.  Is 6gb 1600mhz Corsair Dominator worth $100 over 6gb DS 1600mhz RAM?

The Hailstorm is just a normal 800D, they only do modification to it for the new Sub-Zero TEC Chilled system. Normal stock fans as far as I am aware. You can request additional fans for a fee.

Or you could just get a HAF 932 for a third of the price plus superior cooling. Just throwing that out there, lalala...

Not in the slightest. Little to no gains from the tighter timings.

Thanks for the reply.  So is there realy any difference between the standard gaming configs vs. the black ops?  Looking at the other systems, it just appears that they're offering "higher end" cases and that's all.  I'm not going to be liquid cooling.

Well if you're not going to be liquid cooling, then I would really save some money and get the HAF 932 because it is much better for air cooling.

Aside from that new Sub-Zero TEC Chilled system that is the only difference, the case selection. The ones in the Black OPS are very expensive models.

I don't care for them, they are too niche for most needs. The Assassin is extra quiet, but it is not a huge difference over other cases, many of which are surprisingly quiet as well. For downsides it is cramped for space, has meh cooling, and is overly expensive.

The Hailstorm is extra large, but does not have significantly more room than some much cheaper options, nor is the space needed for the majority of builds. It too has meh cooling and is super expensive.

There's also looks, so I guess if they call out to you and you absolutely have to have one of them based on that than oh well, can't really be helped I guess.

EDIT: How set in stone is the rest of your build? You may consider starting a thread over in the configuration section with your budget and what things you were eyeing, we can offer up suggestions.

HailStorm is best for LC set up and has the most room for future upgrades. The Assassin has great air cooling.  HAF is a good case, but I'm not a fan of the looks at all.

According to who?

By all accounts from owners of the FT02 the cooling is great, it's quiet, and looks like it was built for an adult rather than a teenager.

I agree with Coltman, I dont like the Haf Cases because of their looks, I prefer a more grown up appearance.

According to physics? It only has 3x 180mm fans, only two of which even direct air over anything meaningful (the third is over the HDD bays), so I don't know you expect to get from it.

It's cooling isn't bad, it just isn't anything special like they try to make it out to be, there are better air cooling cases for sure.

HDD's generate significant amounts of heat, and if not vented will raise the internal temps affecting all other components.  It is a poor design that doesnt direct airflow over the heat producers.  The thing about the Assassin case is that it is working WITH gravity and physics instead of against them. And of course the clean professional exterior is nice too.

Physics are working in favor of the FT02 not against it. HDD's get hot, hence the fan directed at them.

Physics...heat rises....assassin pulls cold air in at the bottom, expels hot air at the top.  Physics, thermodynamics, common sense, whatever you would like to call it.

Thanks for the replies everyone.  While I agree with all concerning the looks factor of the BlackOps cases, they infact set me over my budget by $130 to $200 with the same interior components.  I'd personally like upgraded components vs. an improved outside appearance.

The thing will be sitting under my desk in my home office.  I'm debating between the HAF X and the Raven 2.  Leaning more towards the HAF X.  Any thoughts?

I will be posting my build in a separate post for suggestions as recommended per Dragoonseal

The HAF X can fit some larger oversized motherboards, but if you aren't using one then the HAF 932 is cheaper and has bigger fans.
