Is the only need to have a bluray drive for watching bluray movies? The reason I am asking this is because I am wondering if any video games in the near future will use bluray discs instead of DVD. Also, is there any additional software needed to be installed on the computer in order for the computer to play bluray?

Some also burn bluray disks also.

if you have a bluray media then you need a bluray player to play the media.

if its movies then you need a software that can play bluray also.

Games are increasingly using downloads. I see no future where PC games will be stored via BD disks, people would just download.

I got a blue ray player/writer because I use it for back ups. A single sided blue ray disk holds 25 gigs of data. A double sided disk holds 50. So if you are backing up large amounts of data its much easier than a dvd disk. It' a bonus that it also plays blue ray disks so I also watch some movies.
