I know..It came with Power DVD 8 which when I try to put the disk in,it says its an unsupported format....Now why would DS give me software that doesnt work??..I thought they were supposed to test everything on the computers to make sure its a flawless experience...So far it has not been..Needless to say I am a little disapointed...

Im not an expert with this but for testing sake. download this media player.
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ Use that to try and play the disc. Silly question on your drive the actual part that opens(the tray) do you see anything that says blu-ray? Edited by RiceEatin2000GT - 25 Mar 2011 at 3:33pm |

@Davis,
I reviewed your order, and our inventory system shows that we scanned a Blu-Ray drive to your order. Have you tried another Blu-Ray disk? Is this a movie or a Blu-Ray data CD? If you are trying a DATA CD, can you try a movie and let us know what happens? |

Only powerdvd ultra will support BD, if you don't have that version, that is why you getting the unsupported error.
try videolan and see if that plays it. |

I have tried 3 different Blu-Ray disks..I tried a trial version of Power DVD 10 and it played the disk...The disks that are from Netflicks play on my PS3 and the same with the one I own...I find it hard to believe that the drive was tested with a disk,if it was in fact tested at all..I would like to know why I was given software that wont work..

Davis, I'm a bit confused, so the trial version of dvd 10 played it on your pc? if so then your drive is fine, something is wrong with our version of power dvd that came with the pc.

Then the version of powerdvd you have is so that you can play dvds, however the videolan player we mentioned is free and can do that too, can you please tell us if it can play your BD disk also please, cause if that is the case, then just use videolan (VLC) for your player, its a great one.

I have tried VLC and that did not support the format either....I would like to know why they say they have tested it,but it clearly does not work..How can you "test" something that doesnt work?...

everything works Davis, they don't test the dvd/BD drives to see if they play, the stress test is to make sure cpu/gpus/mobo/ram are stable and good, the rest of test is just to make sure that other parts are operable, they don't test your sound cards, tv cards and etc, they just make sure they run and work.
if they wanted to do testing to that extent, the testing would take over a week. maybe they gave you the wrong version of powerdvd. Edited by DST4ME - 25 Mar 2011 at 8:33pm |
