PatrickB,

I am no expert here, but this may be the same issue as "Nvidia display error".  that so many suffer from. I never used to get the "your display recovered message" just got a blue screen with the nvldmkm.sys message.  After trial & error (many trials & errors), it came down to the memory timings were to tight (overclocked).  I reset them back to mfg specs and so far is running without a BSOD.  I too had this issue only when playing games...specifically COD4 & Crysis.

I had increasingly regular lockups and bluescreens, some of which pointed to nvidia.  Game were the big culprit.  Anyway, tried tons of things including 5 or 6 different driver versions, running at std CPU clock speeds, no joy.  Finally decided to test my SLI'ed 280s individually and wouldn't you know, one of the 2 month-old video cards was failing.  (These were not DS supplied.)  Quick RMA with BFG went PDQ (lol) and now I'm back in SLI business.  CPU overclocked, also tested with GPU overclocks, everything solid as a rock.

Point is, don't completely discount hardware, it can give you a bsod error with a video reference (nvldmkm.sys for nVidia cards).  If you're not running SLI or the ATI equivalent, much harder to test for.

Im going to run Memtest86+ tonight. After that im going to try to find a way to test my 3870x2 to see if it's a hardware failure.

I got an error doing the Vista memory test but it won't tell me what the problem is. Hopefully memtest86+ will.

Just got done playing for like an hour. I updated my BIOS to the most recent release and my soundcard as well. Seems to have done the trick! *crosses fingers*
