Major problems with my DSO system.
This thing has never been stable. When I got it just under a year ago, I was super excited - when it runs, its blazing fast. But besides not coming with the DVD burner I ordered, the thing crashes all the time. In a year I've tried over and over again to get DSO to help me but haven't had any success. My recent messages to customer service haven't even garnered a call back. I've been using my work laptop to do stuff at home but it irks me that I spent so much money on a system that's just sitting there with no help. So I figure you guys might have some insight. Here are the BSOD message's I've received in the last few days. Sometimes it runs for hours without crashing, sometimes it crashes over and over again every 10 minutes: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL DIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL MODIFICATION_OF_SYSTEM_CODE_OR_A_CRITICAL_DATA_STRUCTURE_WAS_DETECTED SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION INTERRUPT_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED PNF_LIST_CORRUPT MEMORY_MANAGEMENT CACHE_MANAGER Looks like fun, right? I thought it might be the overclocking - went in and set the computer to it's default 1333 FSB and 9x multiplier, still seeing problems. Thought it might be Vista 64, but I haven't heard of anyone using it that has this many issues. Is 32-bit still available for free when you bought 64? Could it be bad RAM? I've got 4 sticks in there - do I just take one out at a time to test stability? Here's the setup: nVidia 680i Core 2 Quad A1 IntelCore 2 Duo E6850 3.00GHz 4GB DDR2 Corsair 1066MHz Dominator 2 150GB Western Digital Raptors nVidia Geforce 8800GTX 768MB Thanks guys.. |

update your bios, make sure you got all the latest drivers for your mombo and GPU.
check your HDD with chkdsk command from the recovery console of vista and also check your ram by running memtest. you got an error upthere for just about everything. Edited by DST4ME - 09 Nov 2008 at 3:58pm |

Go into the BIOS, select Advanced Chipset Features, select FSB & Memory Config, set your RAM clock to 1000. Hit ESC, select System Voltages, set your DRAM Voltage to 2.200. Hit ESC until you are back into the main screen and then select Save and Exit Setup
This might help, if not you probably have a bad stick of memory. You can test your memory by downloading this: http://www.memtest.org/download/2.01/memtest86+-2.01.iso.zip Extract that file and burn the .iso using Nero (Make sure you select Burn Image from the Burn menu at the top). Reboot, and hit ESC after you hear the POST beep, a menu will come up shortly and ask what device you want to boot from. Select your cd/dvd-rom drive. A blue screen will come up and start testing your memory. Let it run for atleast 5 passes, you can let it run through 10+ passes to ensure it is good. If no errors appear, your system doesn't freeze, no odd characters or colors appear, or no Unexpected Interrupts appear, then your memory is most likely good. The second test if memtest passes would be to download Prime95 and run a Blend Test for 12-24 hours. Hope this helps! |

Updated my graphics and motherboard drivers to the latest versions and flashed my BIOS. That seemed to work for a while last night, even over the course of a number of restarts. The system seemed more stable and didn't crash once.
Now I come home, try to start it up, and it just gives me long beeps and a C1 error on the motherboard. I took out the sticks of RAM, reseated them, still no luck. NOW what do I do? |

Thanks so much SkyR, I followed those directions and got it to boot. I'll run memtest and chkdsk over the weekend if she still starts up (going to bed now).
Alex, I appreciate the sentiment, but I'm going to email you directly about this machine. It's working now, but the fact that I have no confidence in a product I spent over $4,000 on isn't right. If it's OK with you, I'll email the management inbox or you directly, as several of my calls to customer support have gone unanswered, and voice messages have garnered no reply (also not right). While it seems to be operating (for the time being), it has started saying "Floppy disc(s) fail (40)" during post.
I can just F1 through it and boot normally, but it's one more loose thread. |

- It might be disabled or enabled in bios. Try both settings. - Might be connection problem. Cables might not be inserted all the way so try reconnecting it. Or the connection might be backwards, try flipping the plug. - The computer might be searching for a floppy device to boot from, try removing it from the bootable devices in bios. |

The floppy issue is a simple fix.
When first booting. Press Delete rapidly. Or press delete when it ask you to "select F1 to continue or delete to enter setup" The bios will pop up. (IE. Big blue screen). Then go to "standard cmos features". Then go down to "Drive A". Put that to "None." Then press F1 to save and exit. That should clear that up. Edited by Randy - 14 Nov 2008 at 12:17am |

Alex, could you email me? It's [email protected] - I can't get a response out of customer service, and I can't find the management email inbox I found before.

Ten days later - no email, no help. You would think a company that allegedly cares about customer service would respond to a phone message. But phone calls, email, and forum posts have not resulted in an email back.
I guess you can invest in providing quick and thoughtful answers to order and shipping questions, creating enough goodwill to counteract the few people who's four-thousand dollar investments in your company you decide aren't important enough to warrant response. You've lost one potential (and very loud and willing) evangelist. Thanks. Chris |

Chris,
I am sorry to hear about your statement of no response.
I am perplexed onto why you haven't heard from us, but, we on a daily basis always get back to so many other customers and take care of them.
First off, have you resolved the issue with the system, as in the floppy drive? (It really isn't an issue, more of a setting you need to do to let the computer know you don't have a floppy drive since the BIOS has been reset).
Second, if you have any further concerns, feel free to email Jason ([email protected]) or Management ([email protected]).
Third, I am still perplexed onto your claim of no response. Can you email Jason your email address so we can search our emails to see if we even got any of them? I would like to very if our SPAM filters may have caught them?
Finally, I would also highly recommend using the message system instead of emails (http://www.digitalstormonline.com/sendmessage.asp).
Warm Regards,
Alex

Their communications are less than stellar.... once you get their attention it is cool, but it can be a challenge to get that attention in anything less then a hundred calls.

I'm not "getting it" from anywhere. This isn't anecdotal - I'm posting my own experience - and it sounds like a few others have had the same experience.. Chris |

As am I, I made 100 phone calls (documented in a post in the rants thread now deleted) over a 4 day period and spoke to a human being once. The fifth day I finally Got Chris via IM and he was able to get me a callback from management several hours later when I informed him it was an emergency.
Thank goodness Chris answers his IM's He was my savior there. Dave |

Hi all, I just found this thread and am having almost the exact same BSoD issues over the past year or so. Weekly if not daily BSoD's and reseats doesn't sound like a $4-5k system. So, to indulge, first how can I update my BIOS? |
