Thank you, fstcvc, for your nice reply and feedback in the other thread.  :)

While I really like the look and performance of the Bolt II, ultimate version, I wonder if the Slade is a better choice for me as I live in a high pollen area.

Looking at the chassis of the Slade makes me think, hot box. If anyone has any experience with the Slade or opinions please share. Thanks.

Hi Aech, if you do a search for Slade you can find some reviews on it by several customers. That may give you an idea if the Slade would be a better choice for you.

If the concern is pollen or sand, in some ares, falling into the rig while its off as well as on, then the Slade might be better.  Its a closed up case with acoustic panels covering the top and sides.  Most other cases, Bolt 2 included, are open on the side and top.   Slade's front fan can still push dust, pollen, etc into the case , but maybe not as much.

We recently had another forum member with the same concern, but in his case, living in a sand storm area, and the Slade seemed a better pick, but I'm not sure we ever heard the results.

I purchased a Slade recently. You can find my review here. I'm using it in the standard, fully closed configuration with a single blower-style GTX 780, and I can't say that I've had any heat issues. Modern NVIDIA GPUs like the GTX 780 and 780 Ti aren't too bad on the heat front, and it sounds like the next generation may be even better if the new 750 Ti is anything to go by. It might be a different story if you put in two beefy graphics cards, of course. You can always open up the case and put in more fans, but that kinda defeats the purpose of the sound dampening chassis.

I love my Slade - it's extremely quiet for such a powerful computer. That said, the Bolt II is a very sexy machine, and comes in a lot smaller without sacrificing performance specs. Since I don't know much regarding pollen and computers, I can't really make a recommendation.

Agree with the above - the Slade would also be a good choice although in a larger footprint. Not sure on it's ability to filter dust/pollen any better than the Bolt II but it's a more "closed" box design so in general dust/pollen can't get inside easily. I know companies make filters that can be put over the fans on a case to reduce the amount of dust/pollen to get inside. Perhaps this is an option to look at as well?

The Slade comes with a filter over the front intake fans, and one over the bottom. (The idea presumably being that top and rear openings will be used for exhaust purposes only). They're designed for dust, though I'd assume that they'd have an impact on pollen as well.

I'm afraid that my searches aren't pulling up anything about pollen filters on desktop PCs.

Thank you everyone for your replies, yes, I'll do some more research on the Slade.  Well maybe pollen isn't the best description but I live around a lot of orchards in Northern California, high agricultural area.

Counsel, I found your review extremely helpful, as a woman I don't want to be lifting a heavy computer when it comes time to clean it out.  I bought an alienware years ago that was so heavy I had to call someone else to help lol.    Also that bit about plugging your monitor into the GPU so glad you mentioned that or I would not have thought of it.

Glad I could be helpful! If lifting and moving is a concern, then that factor definitely weighs in favor of the Bolt II. The Slade uses the Corsair 550D case, which is a steel-and-aluminum mid-tower that clocks in at 20 pounds even before any components are installed. With all components in, it's more in the 30 pound range, and it doesn't have any carry handles. I found the weight manageable (with care), but I can see it being unpleasantly unwieldy for others, especially if regular cleaning is required. (And it sounds like you might need to clean regularly if you're right by an orchard).

I suggest checking with Digital Storm to see if they have any ideas on dust filtering for the Bolt II. Even if they don't have a custom solution, they might have an idea about certain products on the market that would work, and they can also special order and install items for a $50 fee.
