Topic: Bolt Question Posted: 02 Oct 2013 at 7:12am |
At the time i purchased my Bolt I did not opt for the Titan card. I am kicking myself for it now. My question is, which EVGA Titan will fit into the Bolt? i am looking at this one EVGA 06G-P4-2791-KR GeForce GTX TITAN SuperClocked.

DS does have the Titan in the level 4 Bolt, so it will hold a Titan.
Not sure of that particular card, but if the power draw and dimensions are the same as reference Titan then it should fit. If in doubt, before plunking down all that money, I would email DS with the card's info and have them verify. Good Luck.

They have the regular Titan and the Superclocked on listed as an upgrade. If i have to get the regular one then i will. Just want a little more power. I still say the Bolt is a sweet little machine.

I didn't even notice the other oc'd Titan in their listing. The Bolt is a sweet rig. For single card, all you need.
Not trying to sway you one way or the other, but the gtx 780 is very close in performance to Titan for a lot less $$. I think you have the 680??, (my memory can be tricky ), and if so the 780 is about a 25% boost and Titan probably another 10%. Either way, have fun.

All titans are the same. Nvidia will not allow ASUS or EVGA (the only two resellers allowed in the US) to modify or even create a custom PCB.
With this, you can basically buy any titan you want and it'll work (assuming you have the power for it of course) So if you want to go balls out and get the SC Titan from EVGA, go right ahead. They are all the same size in every way. |

Oh, it should probably go without mentioning, but I'd rather not assume. Obviously don't buy the hydro copper Titan as that is a card with a liquid cooling water block on it... so it'll be useless in your bolt.

I would wait to buy a titan for a little bit.
Aren't new Radeon cards coming out soon and one with supposedly better performance than the titan for less than a titan? This might mean if you wait a few weeks you might see price drops on the Titan to get it around the same price as the higher end Radeon card coming out. |

While, yes you are right Ariktu. The R9 290X will be released on October 15th, it is suppose to be a titan killer. But don't expect nVidia to drop prices. They haven't in the past, and there is a 99% chance they won't this time either. Rumor in the green world is nvidia is planning on releasing possibly a Titan Ultra and a GTX 790 at the end of the year, with the release of the GTX 800 series during the first quarter of 2014.
But even with these, the prices of the GTX titan won't fall much if any at all, at least not until next year. Look at the GTX 690. It's still extremely expensive. At this point and time, unless you want to make the switch to the R9 290X which is rumored to be around $600. There is no real point in waiting to buy. If you play the way to buy for the next best thing, you'll always be waiting as next gen cards are always right around the corner. Not the mention 20nm mass production will start in June 2014, which means the maxwell cards aren't far behind... and they are suppose to be killer. Get my point? If you want a titan, might as well buy one. They might go on sale around thanksgiving, but we're still talking a $900-$1000 card for a while. Regardless of what AMD does. (Of course I could be wrong. I don't know this all for 100%. Just going on how they've done things in the past.) |

Most of us have no experience or a place to go to get info, so I'd call DS.
I woukd think its simply sticking your fingers in there to unplug the power leads, reach underneath to wiggle free the riser cable that goes from mobo to the card and pull it out. But, I'm going from various pics. Let us know how you make out. |

Yea, from what it looks like, it uses a pci express ribbon. Should be I'd think as simple as normal, minus where it's screwed in. But yea, just call DS if you can't eye it and ask them for a quick run through.
Please share with us once you figure it out. I'd actually love some pictures showing me so in the future should anyone ask I'll be able to help them. |

Well I forgot to take pictures but I got it in. This is how I did it.
1. Remove case. 2. Remove screws holding video card in. 3. remove screws holding power supply in. 4. Inside the case there are 2 screws holding the mounting bracket for the power supply. remove them. 5. remove the fan that blows air into the power supply. 6. there is a screw behind this that holds the video card in place. remove it. 7. remove the pci express ribbon from the motherboard. 8. card slides out of the side of the case. 9. reversed all these steps to install new card. the biggest issue I had was all the power cables. as this is such a tight fit they were hard to maneuver around when I was installing the power supply back in. bron |

Wow.. That is more work than I would have guessed. Good thing you have the mechanical aptitude for it.
Thanks for the procedure and glad it worked out for you.

Yea, too bad we couldn't get some pics. But maybe we can get Nav to make a video card installation guide for us for the bolt.

Yeah a video would have been great. A lot of what i did was trial and error. I Thought i had it ready to pull out but found a screw hiding behind the fan that blows air into the power supply. It is there to give the card more stability in the case.
