Ordered a bolt lvl 4 System. I'm super psyched to play some games. While I'm waiting for it(stage 1). Any unboxing recommendations? Should I just plug it in and start it up? Or open it up to double check everything first?

Congrats on the new rig and welcome to the DS family!!
DS normally recommends double checking to make sure nothing shook loose during shipping. When I got mine, I just opened her up and made sure nothing felt loose, plugged her in and let her rip. 3 months without any issues!! With the Bolt so tightly packed I doubt anything will be loose but it's always a good safety measure! |

Chances are the rig will show up with no loose connectors, etc from the shipping jolts it might see. But, never hurts to give it a once over, even slipping the cover off and looking for anything just hanging there. Some have arrived with the thin metal wire clips that hold the cooling fan to the cpu cooler unattached.
If you do open it, might as well make sure the plugs to the mobo, drives and ribbon cable to gpu, on both ends, are all good.
If you don't feel like pulling the cover, you'll probably be good to go. A lot depends how the shipping box and Bolt look upon arrival.

Welcome to the family! I would suggest leaving it as is unless you have issues that require you to troubleshoot, then the first thing you should do is check for any loose connections, etc...

First impressions:
The good: I got Borderland 2 downloaded and it's running so smooth. Can't wait to see Skyrim. The bad: Steam was not per-installed like i ordered. Pending: Sent an Email to Support about an issue. Post more when I hear back form DS. |

It's nothing preventing the PC from running.
It's about the overclock. I was looking though the BIOS just to learn about my PC, and I don't see anything in the settings about the 4.2 oc stated in an email I received form DS, seems like the standard settings 3.5-3.9 turbo boost for the possessor(i7 4770K) |

Download and run CPU-Z. Stress the rig with a game or Windows experience Index, and on the bottom left of CPU-Z, read the core speed, in MHz. Yours might be about 4100MHZ, depending on the oc they gave you.
Enjoy. |

If your only getting the 3900MHz under load, I'm thinking you don't have the overclock. 3900MHz is the Turbo . I can't be sure what load you had , etc, but you could go to BIOS, Tools tab I think and check your mobo manual, and look for a saved oc profile where DS did save the settings. It sometimes happens that a BIOS goes to default because of a shut down issue, or it was changed when you were in there. But, I'm just guessing.
If in doubt, wait for DS. |

Yeah they did the same thing to me back when I bought my ds. If no oc profile is saved just oc yourself as they just had me change the clock values. for a 4.2 just change ring ratio and core ratio to 42 you can also call ds and see if they have note of changing voltages. Never go above 1.250 vcore or 1.20 vring unless you have custom liquid cooling. If you do it yourself also stress test with prime

Which motherboard is in your bolt? If it is the Impact, I it will load bios settings from a file on a USB flash drive. So maybe they can email you a file.
I suggest you run prime95, in stress test mode to see how high it goes. Edited by danjw1 - 18 Jan 2014 at 12:25pm |

I found the saved oc settings in the BIOS. The settings did not work. I reset to the defaults. Think i'm gona wait for DS to get back to me.

Your system left our facility running at 4.2GHz. I just checked the BIOS image (see below) from your system. I also verified the testing screenshots and it was running at 4.2GHz while we were testing the unit.
