Is there any difference besides size and aesthetics? I'm comparing them with the same CPU, graphics card, and RAM. The Bolt is a little more expensive. A quick scroll in the forums made it seem like they're both fairly quiet. Is there any reason to get the Bolt besides it being a little smaller and having a cool see-through side?

I'm working mostly in Adobe After Effects with some 3D animation and possibly looking to get into Unreal (for animation, not game development). The Slade is billed as purpose-built for studio graphics and editing, while the Bolt seems more general. But with comparable component specs, I'm not sure what else would make something purpose-built. Heat handling?

Tangent: is there any reason to get more than the minimum power supply that's able to support the graphics card?

Neither of those cases handle heat as well as the others. The small form factor of the Bolt limits it to AMD CPUs as the Intels run too hot to be cooled sufficiently. The Slade is better, but comes with sound dampening materiel that will tend to limit some heat transfer. It is a roomier case that allows for some better airflow. I can't say I'm fond of either one. Better cases are the Velox, Lumos, and Lynx in descending order of efficient airflow. I believe they all have better cooling than your two choices.

The power supply you choose will allow more flexibility for expansion in the future. IMHO, you would want one in the 800-850 range. You'd only need more for the near future if you were contemplating one of the top-end monster cards someday.

Hope it helps.

I would only add that if within your budget, you should go with the largest psu you can afford. The hardware is slowly requiring more power with each new generation that comes out.

Enjoy.
