i heard from a friend that installing aftermarket heatsinks and using the power connection ON THE card cab make the bios of the crad freak out and just stop working even thow its fine and there is NO way to fix this.

luckly i got mine for 60 bucks!! and a good thing to because im going to put this cooler..... http://www.koolertek.com/computer-parts/pc/arctic-cooling-accelero-twin-turbo-190p974.htm?atc=1&idproduct=974 and im wondering,

should i risk it or just use the 4 pin PSU connector.

why would a card with a 230mm fan blowing on it (thermaltake element v) overheat- evga failed?

is my card a reference type?

any better cooler for equal or less money??

thanks guys and if you could explane bricking, how, why, when....

thanks again

do what ever the instructions say.. if the aftermarket cooler runs more fans, or more powerful fans, then yes it could cause a problem.
you can always fix things, if it has wires they can be modded to go anywhere.
A lot of people when putting on aftermarket heat sinks, mess up. lol they over tighten screws, bow boards, miss pads, get direct shorts, screw up the TIM, ect.
bricking is usually caused by 2 things, one, changing out heat sinks and screwing up, sometimes there are little plastic spacers that can be a pain to get on correctly, just take your time and make sure you follow the directions, and all should be good.  the other way to brick a card is flashing a new BIOS, say your buddy Justin wrote a new hot rod BIOS for you and during the flash something went wrong, or I made a mistake in the BIOS, and poof, the card is now bricked, which means that it is worthless, inoperable, toast.

hummm, long time responding-forgot becaeu i thought i would have the money a while ago but today im ordering the card!!!- anyway, whay your saying is theres a higher chance of me bowing, shorting ETC then bricking it from a new cooler?

the cooler has bigger, by like 14-20 mm, and theres 2 of them. there is a option to use your psu, cable included, but then it just runs at 100% all the time.

i dont know, mabey i could get a fan controler and use that. but i hate fan beinging at 100%, its not the noise, just the fact that they wear out faster vs 60%

i will have to get it and see what i can do.  thanks thow

o and justin----4 TRIPLE rads, whats your temps like -10 BELOW room temp?? lol
