Please consider all aspects in your judgement. Security, ease of use, speed, etc...

nothing is more customizable and stable as opera, I use firefox too but firefox can't do for me what opera does, plus ff eats so much resources, but other then that ff is a good one too, but the crown goes to opera, I just love a browser that I can truly customize.
don't want to start any arguments btw, if anybody finds firefox is great for them then they have the right browser for them, for me for the reasons I stated opera is the best, ff just can't do what I need it to do. Edited by DST4ME - 06 Mar 2010 at 4:57am |

Questions about Opera:
Do people make addons for it like FF? I want to use Chrome or a faster browser I hear Opera 10.5 is very fast, when your over seas rolling with a 128kbps connection it matters :). I don't however want to go without the bandwidth throttling addon, Flashgot(lets you download most any streaming/flash video), and Noscript that FF has. Any other good features? I also use Chrome and IE8 when I have to. |

Here is my thoughts. lol
I use IE, for many reasons. 1. work, so many VPN's, Citrix networks, ect have issues with other browsers, so can't have that.
2. K.I.S.S. more crap on your PC is always a bad thing.
3. Speed, compatibility, safety, these main ingredients to a good browser have been review, tested so many times, and from what I have seen, and have tested, IE gives up very little.
4. Extra worthless futures may be cool for 15 year old girls, but not to me.

Well for my use ie or ff just won't do, cause they can't handle it and I'm not a 15 year old.
as far as safely goes ie and ff are the two most browsers with security issues. speed and stuff is all bs, at the end of the day, there is not that much difference. chrome is the worst browse that I have ever tested, it uses the most resources, this is the dumbest idea anybody ever had, for ever tab it open a process, if you open 15 tabs, with chrome and other browsers, chrome would be the one that uses the most resources and ff would be the second. no opera does not make addons like ff cause you don't need to, more then half off the addons you have to add to ff, are already part of opera. I'm not familiar with some of the addons you are talking about, like bandwidth throttling, not sure what that does or point of it is, but I'm sure if you look around opera forums you can find equivalent of allt he stuff you are looking for. at the end of the day if your browser is giving you what you need then that is the right browser for you, but if you are looking for the browser that uses the least resources, is most customizable and most secure, then opera is the one. |

can't handle the amount of tabs I need to open, till ie7 it couldn't even do tabs period.
I doesn't have the note feature that I use hundred times a day for both updating my site and helping people here amongst other things, honestly the list is too long, just for keeping up my software site alone, I use so many different things, like being able to right click an app's name and searching it with different search engines or places I added to the search option, right clicking an image and opening it with my choice of an app or uploading it to mysite or different sites, trust me when I say I can go on and on, duplicating a page is very big for me, thats a simple command that none of the browsers can do stock, and I don't believe ie can do it period, as far as customization goes, for example I can customize opera to load a DS ticket number by just right clicking the ticket number and choosing that option. oh also I can move opera as it is, with all the settings/passwords/customizations and etc from one pc to another, or just stick it on a flash drive or any kind of drive and move/use it. I've moved almost completely to chrome because it's so much faster than IE and FF. Especially when starting it... it's way quicker at getting me to a target page from a standstill.
I also use Google apps alot and Chrome seems to play pretty well with those (go figure...). One thing though - Chrome has been getting a bit more memory hungry lately though. Especially if open lots (think 10-20) of tabs for a long time and run plugins like flash/silverlight. My usage pattern is such though that I don't find it a problem to shut down the whole group every so often since it's so fast to come back up. Interesting about Opera though. I'll try it out and compare.. especially once I get my new DS system :-) |

there is no way I'm using a browser that opens a process for each tab, I can't have 50 processes running on my pc because I have 50 tabs open and not to mention that chrome will use a lot more memory then opera does with each having 50 tabs open.
there is no other browser that works that way because it totally ignores your your pc's overall performance and selfishly takes as much resources as it wants, which happens to be much more then what others use. IE can open tabs, but its not stable and crashes. Edited by DST4ME - 07 Mar 2010 at 10:42pm |

seems like you might have some issues with your PC(s)? I have a large set of blue prints to do today, and the spec book will be 900+ pages of online PDF, so I will check the resource useage, but I have never had a crash/lockup from IE that I can remember in years.

pdf files are not the same as on line pages, the pdf file opens in one page, I'm talking about multiple tabs, and the resources is higher.
did Alex or somebody mess with the poll? it does not look right, they all have the same usage. Edited by DST4ME - 08 Mar 2010 at 1:51pm |

I opened 28 online PDF files, with a total of 754 pages, then I had 23 forum tabs open, and I open every single link on MSN's home page 108 links I think, and my RAM went from 26% to 53% usage, so I never will have that many open normally, and I have no idea how that compares to the other browsers.?

An article was just recently written by Tom's Hardware showing detailed memory usage and other benchmarks. This is a new article and the browsers are all up to date. Great read for those of us that weren't all to familiar with browsers and their features.
Here is the article: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/firefox-chrome-opera,2558-4.html I was surprised by the results: With a single Tab open Safari provided to have the lowest memory usage followed by Chrome, IE, FF, and finally Opera. With 5 Tabs open FF wins followed by IE, Safari, Chrome and then Opera with FF only using ~1/2 of the memory that Opera does. Eight tabs shows basically the same numbers except with IE and Safari switching places, Opera continues to consume almost twice the memory usage that FF does. I'd be interested in seeing numbers from extreme users for each of the browsers with 25 or so tabs open, but this study doesn't cover that. Edited by Herniter - 08 Mar 2010 at 8:41pm |
