    Posted: 22 Dec 2011 at 1:48pm
Hello all,

I have a custom built DS system, hailstorm, and every time I play BF3 it either crashes(BSOD) and gives me this error: Upset

BF3.exe has stopped working

Or I get the BSOD screen every once in awhile. I have heard that this is a know issue with a lot of people, but i thought I would cunsult you guys first! I ran a Dump File Check and found the cuases of the crashing. Here are the names of those files:

ntkrnlmp.exe      ntoskrnl.exe     dxgmms1.sys(has only been once)    wdf01000.sys(has only been once)

The forst two .exe files are the main culprits. And yes I have everything up to date and recently just got the new Nividia driver 290.95 if I remember correctly. I have not updated my bios since Ive received the computer back in Sept.

Also my video card is the GTX 590 EVGA, and i have a i7 2600K overclocked to 4.4 GHz.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did it work OK before you upgraded drivers? Is it only BF3 that gives you the problem?

Well lets put it this way. I started having issues when their first patch came out for the game, and now i can only play 5-10 minutes without the game crashing and sometimes my system. And this happened before I upgraded my drivers. I may try to go back to the last driver and see what happens.
EA supposedly told me that the next patch would fix these crashes.....although im not to sure about that.

And yes it still happens. Just had a BF3.exe stopped working crash within 5 minutes. Computer did not crash this time though. I am running the previous NiVidia Driver.

Hi tbutter,

Going back on the driver probably won't work if you had the problem before upgrading. Do you have another game that you can play to see if it fails? Do you have the latest issue of Origin? I think some of the BF-3 problems has been Origin. I am not the right one to help you with this. I don't have BF-3 so no first hand experience.

Try removing your CPU overclock by loading BIOS defaults and then save and exit from the BIOS. You can always revert back to your overclock by loading the saved profile.

Frank-----Yes I have tried other games like Command and Conquer and nothing happens while playing those on High Settings. I think its an issue with this last BF3 patch, but I don't know why it would cuase my system to crash periodacly. And it does not crash every time either.

Alex----I while try to down clock it to see what happens, but it was overclocked at the factory and deemed stable and worked fine when BF3 first came out for the first month!

I will let you know how it turns out.

Any other ideas or first hand experience would be greatly appreciated!

Sometimes, when a system is overclocked, it can be very sensitive to the weirdest of things. Removing the overclock to check is a quick and easy way to check.

I only got one BSOD today. It was BF3.exe has stopped working all day. I heard that BF3 is trying to access memory it is not allowed to and thats cuasing the crashes. Supposedly going to be fix in the next patch.....

All of your dump files point to ntkrnlmp.exe as being the culprit.

if your gpu drivers are upto date, and this only happens with bf3 then its the game.

if it happens other times then its time to look at something like your oc, ram.

Okay so I just played a full game of BF3 without any problem....first time in at least a week. I'm gonna keep playing and see what happens.

Also this did happen once with Crysis 2, but only once. I am running on WiFi and have a TP-Link USB Adapter. Which may have old drivers that is cuasing this. I can't for the life of me find new ones.

But I'm going to keep playing, and also I am running a memtest tonight. I'll keep yah updated.

Thanks for the update. Any reason why the issue seems to have gone away?

I have no idea. Ive been playing all day, with the only problems being disconnections from servers...which is normal.

So I was continuing on having issues with the BSOD's.

I unclocked my system back down to 4.3 GHz turbo and Auto voltages.

I have played 4 games now of BF3 with no issues.
