Specifications -
I have a $3,000 limit on a computer that includes TAXES (California, Fremont 9.5%) and Shipping (not sure how much) and I want to get the very best computer I can

Size, not a concern
Color, not a concern
Orientation, not a concern (left window, right window, etc)
Noise, not a concern
Room temps nominal, no animals, fairly clean environment.
Speakers, not a concern. Game with headphones
Have all other accessories this is just the computer

There is no stretching the budget. $3k is maximum

Help me configure the best I can get for my budget

I, too, am in NoCal.. have you thought about driving down to get the machine yourself? Not only would it save you some shipping costs, you could be certain that the gorilla handed freight folks don't get a chance to bash your machine.

@RayMan are you looking to be gaming on both monitors, like in games both monitors are working as one right, you are not gaming on monitor and other stuff on the other?

This system is designed to go sli 1080 if you need to, not sure how vr does so just in case.

if you are not intersed in sli 1080 then drop the psu to the 850w/750w evga (the more expensive one)










If you don't have a external storage then pic wd black edition for hdd2 or better yet if you can use a 1tb ssd instead for hdd/ssd2.

You did pick that in the first build, problem was mobo/psu/cooler. otherwise it was good


Always ask what the pc is for and in gaming we need to know the res and types of games so that we know what gpu setup to recommend, that will help us pick mobo/psu. cooling is simple for gaming anything from 4.0 to 4.4GHz will due so its noctua and stage 1 oc, if they want higher we go to hydrolux which is the next cooler to give us a perfomrance difference from noctua.

Taxes in Fremont (Alameda County) are currently 9.5% and the pick up fee 3 years ago was $45 for "Shipping and Handling" which really just meant the packaging and boxing (and help carrying it to your car if you need).

@RayMan Say hello to the guys in the back for me! When you drive in the lot, the first roll up door is receiving so you want to go to the other one: Shipping.

@MrButters that is a good build but a few things, you always want to oc the cpu to stage 1 since that is the most performance gain.

He will be going higher res so we need to build his system to support sli 1080 and for that with oc you want to be in a 1000w psu.

the evga is oced already and will give him better perfomrance.

Not crazy about that mobo either, other than that its a good build

Got rid of the corsair fans (cries) and downgraded the graphics to the 1070, with the possibility of going SLI in the future with two 1070s.

Yes EVGA has established themselves in this area and it's first choice if the money is there.

I requested an EVGA 970 and will be getting an Asus Turbo instead with the Vanquish.  My new PC is supposed to be delivered today (hurray!) so we'll see how it runs.  Most curious about the coil whine that a lot of people have complained about with the 970s, but if it's too loud or have other issues then I'll just buy a 1070 and switch it out.  Right now the old PC is running an old 8800, so it needs something else anyway as a solid backup PC.
