Hello again this time I'm here for myself and not work. My budget is around 1800 since tax will put me at about 2000 hate you cali tax.
Main use is for some gaming and a little video editing on the side and just everyday use really. My main question is which is to go with most of my friends say 7 but some say 8 any real diff besides start up time which I don't really care about and that 8 hi was mostly made for touch. Just wANT to know which would be better for gaming really because I also play a lot of old games as well. Thanks for the help in advance. |

I have no experience with Win8 but for a new build I would get the latest OS. From what I've read, Win 8 works just fine with gaming and like Win7 does allow compatability mode for older programs. In a couple of months, Win 8.1 is being released to fix concerns some have had.
Not sure you're asking for config help, but the ODE level 1 with the gtx 770 added and maybe a SSD would be real nice gaming on a single monitor. Good luck.

I used Windows 8 for a few months and when I bought my DS computer I was looking to buy one with windows 7 since little things about windows 8 bothered me.
I know you can use third party programs to fix many of the issues with windows 8. However, I hate using a third party program that could be broken on a patch as a solution to short comings in an operating system. While it is up to you. Windows 7 is fine and there is very little reason to feel the need to move to windows 8 at this point. |

In order to get the full benefits of DirectX 11.1, you must have Win8. I am guessing that MS will make each future version of DirectX benefit Win8 over Win7.
And here's a nice little build for your $1800 budget... 860916 - $1798 (following bprat22's recommendations on the GTX 770 and an SSD for OS & main software) Happy building!!
