Hi all,
Considering a DS desktop and wanted to get some input. Looking to spend around $2500 give or take. Mostly for gaming, especially Left 4 Dead and hopefully the new Call of Duty. Already have speakers, mouse, printer, etc. Using a 22" Samsung monitor. Fire away! |

Hey, ty for the quick reply. I really like the first build.
Is it worth getting a second HDD for RAID 0? Or would I be better off putting that money towards a second GPU? |

none of the above.
I didn't give you one gpu because of budget, I gave you one gpu cause that is all you need at your res to play games at the highest settings, you will not notice a difference between a second gpu and this build at your res. Once you go above 1900 x 1200 then you will need a second gpu. raid is not worth it, save the money and upgrade HDD1 to a ssd in 2010 and push the 500GB to HDD2 for storage. |

I did make a small change....upgraded to the GTX 295. What can I say? The money was there to be spent ![]() |

but why? you will not be able to tell the difference between 1 x 275/5850 and 295, and by that I mean, if I came to your house in the middle of the night and took out the 295 and replaced it with 275/5850 you would never notice the difference unless I told you.
plus theoretically speaking, lets say you had a 24" with 1900 x 1200 resolution, at which case more gpu power is needed, I/nobody would recommend you to go with a 295, since 2 x 275 cost less and has better performance then 295, or a 5870 that gives you the same performance in most games and cost less. Also 2 x 275 will have better performance than 295 in games that don't support sli and so will the 5870. but at your res you will not be able to tell the difference between 1 x 275/5850 and 2 x 275 or 1 x 295, or 2 x 5850 or 1 x 5870. If there was money to spend, I would have recommend it to be spend on a ssd, so at least you will see a difference in system performance. hope that info helps. It does, and I appreciate the advice. I'm also thinking about 2 years from now, I can put in another 295 and SLI them. *shrug* Maybe it was a bit unnecessary, but it seems like it can't hurt. :)

in two years from now you will toss the 295 for a single, more powerful crad that will be cheaper.

bad idea but its upto you, again 2 x 275 will out perform it and in both sli and non sli games and cost less.
so why not go with 1 x 275/5850 now hten later if you need the power you can add 1 or 2 more, if needed and 3 x 275/5850 will give you the same performance or better than 2 x 295. an in a few years there will more powerful card that cost less. Edited by DST4ME - 17 Nov 2009 at 6:38pm |
