Topic: Build assitance needed Posted: 27 Nov 2009 at 4:53pm |
I have decided to get a custom rig from DS, but need some help as I have space issue. I need a chassis that will fit in a desk that is no bigger than 18 inches tall and 21 inches deep. In addition, the space it will go in has no airflow so I am very concerned about cooling.
I am thinking of an i7 CPU (2.66 GHz overclocked to 3.9), a GTX285 1 or 2 GB GPU (1920x1080), 4-6 GB 1600MHz RAM with a 750W power supply.
Any suggetions on a chasis and cooling system that will work well?

if the space has no ariflow, all case's ariflow is gonna do is flow hot air.
find a bigger, more open spot to put the pc, otherwise you gonna have all kinds of problems down the road. |

Noctua Air or Asetek liquid 120mm or 240mm. 3.) If air cooling are the zalman upgrades worth it? |

Looks like a great setup. I would personally recommend the 1x5850, though you may have to add one in the future when the DX11 games start appearing.
If you are concerned about noise get the Noctua and don't get the fan upgrades. I wouldn't recommend the noise suppression thing as I think it would be a waste of money in your case (if you are considering it). I would also recommend the EVGA x58 LE motherboard as it has more slots for future upgrades/add-ons. |

Can the Internal Lighting be turned on/off? I like the look, but my wife doesn't.

depends where they get theirs from, and which you're speaking about If you're talking about the CCLF lighting, some brands do package them with a little on and off switch. but some don't
if you're talking about the Fans, then most likely no, unless you unplug something (some fans w/ lights come with a seperate power plug for the lighting)

the internal lighting can be turned off yes, the front led fan, no, but you can replace it with a non led fan if you wanted to.

The wait continues. There was a problem w/ the RAM (6GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified by mushkin enhanced) during testing and they're all out so they're giving me a free upgrade.
