Hello, Im looking to buy a new computer and can anyone give me some suggestions on if I should change anything? Ill probly get some saying get a ssd I dont't have much more money and my current computer has a raptor drive and then a second for anything but I really hate this because everything wants to install to my first drive and some games only work if I install to it hence why I have only like 5gb room left on my first drive >.<. I want to know if DS can add fans onto the side windows for gpu cooling or should I be getting a diffrent case? I want to be able to upgrade the PSU and add a second video card for sli in the future. I would get a bigger psu but atm I don't have enough. And so on any help is good. :D

We need to know if this is a gaming rig, and what monitor resolution you intend to use. Think we can save you some $$. Where did you get a quote for shipping? Is it bc you're in Canada you can't get free shipping?
The Storm Sniper has very good cooling without modification.

Slow down just a little, there are some real experts that have not seen your post yet. I can tell you there are a few things about your build that need adjustment. For instance, you can get the power supply you will need for SLI now with a few minor tweaks to your build. The 480 is way more card than you need for your res. The 1T HDD can save you some $ now, and you can always get more storage later. Etc, etc. Look at the configuration posts from the last week or so, there have been several threads about smaller budgets.

BTW, my build was $2250

Thanks for your info. I want the 480 because I might be getting a new monitor adventuly and I dont want to pay $164 bucks to ship it to get a new gpu installed. The hdd its only like $20 diffrence for extra 500gb so I thought mswell. Im probably more concerd about cooling gpu/dust filters. I have alot of pets and my room is pretty dusty lol.

you can install gpu/ram/HDD yourself, don't ever send pc back for those things, they are so easy I can teach your 12 year old cousin who has never seen a pc to do all of them in 3 minutes.

we can change HDD1 to ssd if you like, or if the budget does not allow then change HDD1 to the 1TB HDD.

Thanks for the reply. I still prefer 480 gtx and the 1.5tb HDD but I want the gpu to be cooled better. Like is this case good or should I be getting a case with a fan on the side pannel (such as the Maelstrom). I wish I could go with LC but it just costs waaay to much. I asked DS if they can put a fan on the side window of this case and they said no but I watched some reviews saying you can so I don't know. I really think I don't need a ssd like Id wrather wait the extra 30 seconds on startup and so on it will still be MUCH faster then mine currently lol. Also were can I buy dust filters? Preferbly in Canada and are they easy to install? Like as I said I have alot of pets cats/dogs but my one cat comes in my room and theres alot of hair. Currently I blow the top/front fans out with an airduster before I turn my pc on yet still gets a nice layer of dust inside. In all I think I just want to make sure it has good temps since it will be sitting beside a vent which in winter theres hot air but I close it but ofc the house is hotter. Also is windows 7 pro needed? like why not home premium?

sniper has 200mm fans on front/top and side from what I understand.

no point in 1.5TB

HDD1 = fast small drive: os/apps/games

HDD2 = regular large drive: media/personal/work file storage

Don't fill up your HDD1 more then 50%, if think you will need more room for it then pick a bigger one.

for your res, 480 is pure waste, you can get it, then I can come in the middle of the night and switch it with a 470 and you will never notice the difference unless I told you about it.

win7 pro allows for xp mode, home does not, pro also can use more ram, but keep in mind we are talking 64bit versions here.

The Storm Sniper, one of which is 3 inches from my leg at the moment, comes equipped with a 200 mm fan mounted on the side panel. There is also one on the top and in the front. (200 mm) There are other fans as well, and this case is designed specifically to move massive amounts of air. If you don't know off the top of your head, get your ruler out and look at 200mm.

Really? I looked at the side cade of the sniper it dosen't have a fan on the side.

The 480 im getting because im getting a new monitor soon and I like overkill :D

If sniper case dosen't have a side fan I was thinking of the Haf 932?

The hdd I dont like having a small one first as I said in my first post. I have a raptor for my first drive and another. Some of my games must be installed to the first drive (C) for them to work idk why but yeah.. Then everything wants to install to it. 1.5 gb probly not need but as you said I wont fill it 50% and it's like a $20 diffrence from 1tb so.. I REALLY want good cooling on the gpu/case to bad I can't get LC =( I'm probably buying this tonight. Also is the 1000watt psu good enough for the future such as sli 480 gtx / possible LC? I probably wont be upgrading anytime soon but just wondering. Thanks for all your info though. :D I'm going to die waiting a month for it to ship to me lol.

For win pro you mean dual boot? I think it costs too much extra dosen't it?

ALSO lol im interested in getting a capture card to record games ect in HD that dosen't affect frame rates. (hopefully not over $150 and easy as hell to install if I don't get DS to install one) Maybe recommend me one? and i'll see if DS can get it / install for me.

If your monitor is going to be different res then we need to know that, cause we need to change some things.

1000w for a 480 sli is pushing it, you will want 1200w psu.

you will have to some day explain to me what is the point of having something when you won't know the difference of it being there or not.

the problem with having a huge HDD1 is managing it, good luck defragging, scanning, backing up and etc, a huge drive, a faster but smaller drive is much better for HDD1, a 250GB should be enough for apps and games, the rest can go on a storage drive.

Im use to long defrag times so not that hard for me lol.

What about this capture card I really want one now.

I more want a new monitor for HD then big res though :D

And dose the CM sniper really have a side fan? like in reviews and by the pic on DS it dosen't and Sara said they couldn't add one to the side due to it's design. Maybe I should go with Haf 932? Idk

maybe the side fan is getting in the way of the cpu cooler, from newegg and every place else I see its suppose to have 3 big fans, top/side/front, just like haf.

So what case should I go for then? Maelstrom or Haf 932? or any others?

And please recommend a capture card lol? I really don't know much about them but that you can record games with no fps loss so I wants one lol.

Maybe this?? http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815100049&cm_re=capture_card_hd-_-15-100-049-_-Product

It says I need a sound card? Onboard enough? Would DS install something like this or anything close to it? For recording in hd 720p + from consoles and on pc and to upload to youtube. But then I don't got sony vegas lol. How do people get sony vegas pro I just looked and it's $600 bucks ..............

If I get a capture card will I not be able to get another gpu later cuz of it taking space up?

And should I order a monitor from DS or no cuz i'm in Canada so I think it might get broken.

Please reply asap I want to buy tonight so badly :D need help.

Well then why did Sara say they can't put a fan on the side window. She didn't say there was a fan already there.

Wish I could call them but there closed now. =( I want to order it tonight but I need to know a few things like what I said in my previous post.

why don't you just record the screen itself, which then happens to have the games on it? try auto screen recorder, its has a freeware version, and will record what ever size you set it to.

Yes but software ones such as fraps and so on destroy your fps. Capture cards don't lower your fps when recording + have option to record console in HD which I have a ps3. But will a capture card take up space for a second gpu in future? And Idk what card to get of it. AND how the hell do people get Sony Vegas pro 9 lol >.< I guess I cannot buy tonight I want to though I really need to talk to DS. Btw will they talk to a 16 y/o on the phone :D lol

Ok been reading through your thread and can provide some input Ouch
1) If this is for gaming , yo ucould just get a small SSD like a 80gb one, HDD1 should be small and then HDD2 should be used for storage, so could move the 1.5TB to there. If yo ucan't afford a SSD just get a smaller HDD as DST4ME said for HDD1 and use your raptor for HDD2.

2) 480 would be useless if it provides no difference, might as well just got for the 470 and save some money to put towards a SSD maybe? Now if you are getting a new monitor soon, find out what the res is and then configure around that monitor if you are for sure going to purchase it.

3) For monitors you want a IPS panel for the best picture quality, the panels at DS are Tn panels i believe, or so i've been told (DST4ME can correct me Smile)

4)A captre card lets you record gameplay from consoles (xbox , PS3) through your computer, and yes it does take up a PSI slot, which would prevent you from installing a GPU in that particular slot
5) If your going to do SLI 480, you will need a bigger PSU to be safe as DST4ME stated.

6) You do sound like your rushed to buy the system lol, I suggest you take some time to get a general idea of what the best set up for you will be before finalizing

Just my opinion, but you sound like you want a lot more things on this comp, you could always wait for a bit then come back and purchase later when you have enough money for LC and SLI 480 or w/e yo uwant.

Just my input Ouch

Fraps should only be used to record computer games really lol, no point in console games, possible, but ultimately pointless, read my post above  for info about the cap card, People don't get sony vegas legally atleast the majority don't. They use torrents and what not to get it illegally. And yes DS will talk to a 16yr old I believe :)

Capture cards can also record comp screen though?

I am getting a bigger monitor res so im sticking with 480 lol

how a capture card works is, it takes up a PCI slot on your MOBO , you then connect to it with a cable from your recording box, (EG: Dazzle HD ) then connect your recording box to your console (EG: PS3)

So it will be

PS3 --> Recording box --> Capture card on Mobo

you plug in to the capture card from the back of your PC

by all means man do you would prefer :) if you don't feel like you need a SSD then don't get one :P could always lower the HDD tho! but again its your PC so ultimately your choice :)

As for fans I can't help you :(
When I do order mine it will be a custom case lol

look for a monitor that has the same Viewing Angle, both vertical and horizontal, and is at or above 170°, this is a sign of a quality panel on a monitor, assuring great picture quality aka ips panel.

ssds don't just help in boot times, transfer and copying files and etc and even in games, the help with many things.

I think there is another place but for now you can check this place for filters
