Topic: Build Suggestions Posted: 09 Oct 2008 at 4:37pm |
Hey guys, I've been on the search for a new computer for the last couple of months and with my birthday coming up on Monday I have finally decided to order up a Digital Storm system. I have read nothing but good things concerning their support and quality of their systems and since checking out the site the other and looking at the forums I decided to consult some people that know more about the subject then I do. I have built the following computer and was wondering if there is anything that I should change before I order it either later tonight or early tomorrow so I can get it ASAP. I appreciate any suggestions and will check back soon
Questions: Is a sound card really necessary anymore? Would there be much of a performance difference between the 4GB OCZ 1333MHz RAM and say 4GB OCZ Platinum 1600MHz? Is there much of a difference between Stage 2 and Stage 3 Cooling? great build I would encourage you to go with liquid cooling since it will get you higher speeds then air. and HAF is already pretty much in stage 3, if you choose stage 3 they will just replace the big fans with smaller fans, there is more air yes but it can't compete with liquid cooling. so inshort it would just be one change and this: here you go Ticket# 193338 --- Price: $3301 (To see this build click here) Copy of Specifications: Chassis: Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Interior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Power Supply: 1000W PC Power & Cooling (Turbo-Cool Edition) (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.0GHz (1333MHz FSB) (12MB Cache) Motherboard: nVidia 790i Ultra Core 2 Quad (nForce 790i Ultra SLI) (DDR3 Only) System Memory: 4GB DDR3 1333MHz OCZ Card Reader: - No Thanks Hard Drive 1: 150GB Western Digital VelociRaptor (10K RPM) (16MB Cache) (SATA) (Extreme Speed) Hard Drive 2: 500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Raid Option: - No Thanks Hard Drive 3: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Wireless Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 1GB (Includes PhysX Technology) TV Tuner: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: Liquid Chilled FrostBite CPU Only Internal Lighting: Blizzard Internal Lighting (Blue Edition) (Cold Cathode Tubes) Modifications: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Yes, Overclock the processor as much as possible with complete stability Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: Yes, Overclock memory timings (Includes Memory Fan Kit Installed) Tweak Windows: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) (For Enthusiasts) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks LCD Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks my keyboard comes with a mouse External Storage: - No Thanks Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty |

Thanks DST, my only concern regarding liquid cooling is the transportability of my PC while it has liquid inside it, while most of my lan days are behind me you never know when something may come up :P
And I was wondering about the dual boot of XP/Vista how does that work exactly? I've read about it but have never seen a computer with it set up, was just wondering if anyone had any experience with that and their thoughts. Thanks again Edited by swangled - 09 Oct 2008 at 8:48pm |

the liquid cooling is fine, its not water so if it spills it won't mess up your system, you can always drain it and fill it back up if needed, the HAF is a sturdy case.
XP/vista setup is very simple, its like any other dual boot, at boot time you choose with OS you want to boot to and you boot to that OS. Edited by DST4ME - 10 Oct 2008 at 12:00am |

That build looks remarkably like my system, it's safe to say you're gonna love the hell out of it. Lord knows I am.

You would be right JL, that setup is the most for the money right now.
for example just couple of month ago we did not have the q9650 so most of the setups look like this but with a q9550. great builds regardless, DS is fantastic and all of you can call me jealous lol maybe I should change my name from dst4me, dstjealousy |
