Building a new computer, need advice

Good afternoon everyone, I have been following posts over the past few months and have decided to order a new DS system this week as my old system has died and I need a replacement.
 
What I have left that works:
 
Dell U3011
Battlefied Gaming Keyboard and mouse
D-link modem, highspeed Wifi router, 4TB wireless storage, 2 wireless printers.
New Intell 180GB SSD 330 series (my system did a meltdown before i could install it) ( I would like to use this when i get my new system)
 
I use my computer for gaming, school work, and managing a home network that has three other laptops and another desktop.  Three of use are all taking classes and use the network storage for papers, research projects, store i-tunes and we would like to store movies in the future.

I have 4K to work with but can spend more if i have to.
 
My questions are about graphics for the U3011 and power use.
 
I was using 2 Nvida XFX Black Edition (260) cards to run the Dell Monitor at high resolution and they ran very hot to the touch (air cooled, Cosmos case) and i think one of them ran so hot that the card fans quit and damaged the motherboard.   How do I determine how much graphics power do I need to run this monitor?
 
My second question regards power supplied to the computer.  I see some pretty powerfull power supplies but how do i determine when I'm overloading the circuit powering the computer outside of the lights dimming when the laser printer kicks on.
 
Any design help you guys could provide would be great and thanks

It all depends on what you are using the monitor are you into demanding games like bf3 crysis etc or just a casual gamer? Do you want 60+ fps all the time or do you not mind having sub 60 fps during gaming

I do enjoy the high frame rates, but i don't think it is necessary.  The U3011 has loads of real estate available, I just wasn't sure If I'm setting myself up for failure by using two graphic cards, do you think I overloaded the cards on my previous system because the cards were not powerfull enough or was it that the environment was bad (not enough cooling), I don't want to make the same mistake when I order my new system.

Three years old,
 
I do like playing fps games.  Sometimes for hours when i need a break.  good diversion.
 
I should add that I also have a Bose 301 sound system (USB) if that makes a difference

Lol that's old for a graphics card you said you had nvidia 260s that's four generations old

Hi gjjohns.....  That build looks great.
 
You could save $300 by going to the 4 core 3820 cpu if this is a gaming rig, but then the oc'ing would be stage 1, not 2 like the 3930.
 
Drop the performance fans unless this is for eye candy.  The HafX is great as-is and why mess with excellant cooling and quiet. 
 
The stage 3 cooling is ok but the stage 4 has better parts and a 240mm radiator as opposed to the stage 3, 120mm rad.  The stage 2 Vortex 240mm also has a 240 mm rad for better cooling and is cheaper.  Again, if this is for looks then its up to you.  The stage 4 gives you UV tubing and the stage 2 240mm is a sealed unit with no glowing.  I would go with a 240mm rad but that's me.

HI gjjohns,

You have a good build and I agree with everything bprat22 said. Stage 3 is a mistake with the 3930K CPU. You need stage 4 LC or go with the Vortex 240.

Thanks for the advice, I did go with the Stage 4 cooling.  I ordered my system and just recieved it from FedEx today.  I'm looking forward to getting everythink up and running.  Thanks again!
