Can't seem to locate my old topic in the plethora of topics, starting a new one.

I tried to whip up a balanced build for a bud, he might order anytime now. ANYway, I wanted to get some last min. opinions before he shoots.

seems to me that if youre up that far in cost the extra $80 for the 470 is worth it

and if its about total budget, i would take a 1156 route and get the 470

$1732, $12 more with 1156 + 470

the current price of the 470 makes me confused with the pricing of the 460s

the only thing that concerns him with the 470 though is the power spike when it starts getting pretty loaded. i've been talking to him long enough to know that, well, he's a teen, and his mom is pretty...well...nuts... about how big is the power gap under load between a 470 and a 460?

yeaah, his situation's sorta complicated. well, you ever heard the term "typical chinese parent"? they're sorta nuts, and they will do everything in their power to force their kids to do work, and also to take away any sort of fun they have...i mean honestly, this guy's mom has taken the guilty statement "you don't appreciate things because you were never in possession of only one pair of clothes before" or something like that. yeah. basically, he's lucky his dad sided with him and allowed him a chance to order something from DS anyways, so I'm trying to also customize this somewhat on a personal level with him. if he starts using a lot of heat/power, erm, his mom has threatened to start charging him for that and his internet...eh....

460 1gb load voltage = about 340, overclocked up to 430
470 stock load = about 430

so basically if you choose the 460 and overclock it, your up to the draw of a 470

heat wont show much difference between the two cards unless someone is standing behind the computer all the time

noise is another story, the 460 not overclocked will of course be significantly quieter

as far as ther performance, its roughly 15-20% on the current games, but thats not accounting for minimum fps since its a different architecture the 460 will likely dip significantly lower
