Hey,
I was thinking, if ever I needed to buy more memory for my computer, can I buy it here?  I just read the thread on Vista vs. XP.  I got XP.  I had heard many bad things about Vista but now it seems they're ironing those things out.  One of the things I heard also was that it eats a lot of memory.  So, I'm thinking, if I do get Vista-I'd like to get more memory...where would I order the memory from? Just call up and connect to the sales dept?  How much is 2-1 GB sticks of memory?  Just for future references?  Which one should I buy?
Also, what Vista should I buy if I do decide to take the plunge? Is it really worth all of the extra money for the advanced versions?  Do I need an advanced version?

Thank you all so much. You're always a great help to me whenever I ask questions.  I really appreciate it.  Tongue

Go with vista home premium if the bells and whistles aren't that important to you. Then if you're getting 32 bit Vista, don't worry about memory. You likely have two gigs already (considering you purchased from us) and 32 bit Vista will only recognize up to 2.8 gigs of system memory. If you're going to go with a 64 bit version, well you won't need the extra memory, but you can get more. 64 bit Vista recognizes up to 130gigs from what I hear, so you can go all out if you want to. Though the most I've seen in a system is 8gigs. We'll sell you memory if you like, or any upgrade for that matter. At this time we don't sell hardware, but we'll do anything for our customers. So we'll sell you upgrades and other such components. As for an exact price, you'll have to call.

To add to Dave's comments, although 64bit addressing can support up to multiple gigs of memory, most desktop motherboards will max out at 8GB.

Okay, I won't need memory if I go with the 34 bit.  I know there's Vista Home edition, Professional and then the Ultimate.  They have bits to choose from on top of that, I gather? I'll go with the 34 bit.  I don't think my computer needs any more than 3 gigs of memory anyway-if that.  By the way, can you use any memory card for any computer or are they specialized by computer?  I have 2 sticks left over from my Compaq dinosaur. They're just little babies- 128 mb each, I think, if I'm not mistaken. How cute is that? If the 34 bit Vista home recognizes up to 2.8 gigs then this will give a little extra boost to my 2 gigs already in my computer.
If not, then I'll just throw these puppies out.  I don't know why I kept them.  Me being nostalgic or thrifty.  More than likely thrifty.

Thanks much for the information.  I think I'll look at the different specs and see which one I need and how much they each cost.
The 34-68 bits confuses me.  I guess it has to do with graphics or something? :shrugs:  Well, whatever it is, if I don't already know what it is then I probably don't need the higher version.  Ermm
Thanks again  .

Oh, and thanks for selling upgrades to us, even though you don't sell hardware.  I like that you know my computer and know what will be good and not so good for it when I order something.  I don't have much confidence in my ability to know what's best for my computer so this is fantastic. Really appreciate knowing I can call on you.  Tongue

Its 32 bits and 64 bits Pineapple.
That old memory you have is indeed dinosaur memory. I bet its probably SDRAM. It will not work with your current system. You're currently using DDR2 RAM.

Stern%20Smile Oh.

LOL!!  LOL  Duh. Okay, then I'll just throw them out. Thanks.
I'll just forget about the memory altogether or at least until I have a reason to worry myself about it.

You may want to save them in case you lose your memory.  (rim shot!)
