Hey guys,
I have a problem that I'm hopeing one of you can help me with being you all seem extremely knowledgeable and very helpful! I currently have the Samsung SyncMaster 2443bwx lcd and I'm wondering why whenever I put a dvd on the picture is extremely 'snowy' or 'noisy' I've tried everything on the monitor settings and nothing works. I've also tried adjusting the gpu settings (Nvidia control panel) to see if anything would help but I still keep getting a very noisy picture! I have a core i7 3.3ghz, 3 gb ram, and a single gtx 295. Do you think its the monitor itself, i know its not anything great, but from reading other people who have it, no ones described these issues yet. Is there a certain rule that applys when playing with the settings of a monitor, such as brightness and contrast and sharpness...or is their anything on the nvidia control panel that im missing? What are the basic recommended settings of the gtx295? I have the latest 190.62 driver installed. Keep in mind its only noisy when I play movies, regular computing everything is crisp and clear. I want that crisp clear look with my dvds as well Please someone help!! |

I've got a Samsung Syncmaster 2232bw, pretty close to your model I think. I've never had this problem, although I usually shunt movies across a DVI/HDMI link to my HDTV.
You might look at your player, settings, or try another one, or could be a codec problem. If everything else on the monitor is crisp & clear, I doubt it's the monitor or it's settings. Edited by Psimon - 22 Sep 2009 at 8:24pm |

hey guys thanks for the replys! I'm watching them over WMP maybe I should download a different player, maybe it is a codec problem...hmmmm, harleyman how do you get into movie or game mode? is that a setting in nvidia? i dont see it if it is, and my monitor doesnt have those options!

Hi DST, I played it with vlc media player and i still have the same problem...you can still see snow on everything...its not hugely noticable but I can def notice it, i know dvds aren't that great, but I would think they would be pretty crisp and clear like they would be on a tv.

The funny thing is, it really is only video...i downloaded a 1080p trailer and still the snowy look...so its not just dvd's.

hey harleyman, yeah i did install the driver for it, but it didnt install any software onto my computer, just the driver...does yours have those modes within the monitor itself or is it on software that came with the monitor? I don't think i've even seen a setup options page!

Yeah, like text and my wallpaper and pictures, all those are very clear and sharp, all the still objects...just any kind of movie or video seems to be the problem...my monitor is HDCP compatible too,so I downloaded a 1080p video clip and I still got poor quality, snow etc

I don't think its the monitor but I'm not monitor expert either.
I'm thinking its the gpu or a damn setting some where. is it possible to connect this pc to another monitor or tv and see if this problem is still there or not? Edited by DST4ME - 23 Sep 2009 at 5:11pm |

My pleasure, just try the tv, if it does the same with the tv then we know its the gpu, drivers, or mobo, if it does not do it with the tv then we know its the monitor.
try to use the same cable also, so we can rule that out too. Edited by DST4ME - 23 Sep 2009 at 6:56pm |

ok dst I just hooked her up to my samsung series 9 lcd and you guessed it, same thing! Poor quality, so you were right its not the monitor! There must be some setting that i dont have right...do you know what typical setting at 295 would use. For example the adjust video color settings, should I use the video player settings or the Nvidia settings? same with video image settings, u have a choice of either nvidia settings and video player settings, mind I have tried both and neither seem to make any difference. Maybe its a setting like you said, should verticle sync be on or off...right now mine is set at use 3D application setting. I dont even know what these settings mean or do! I'm hopeless!
But thank you for helping me so far!! |

set whatever you do know back to default.
now if you can, try a different gpu in the system, is that possible? I doubt this will help but you can try updating the drivers and see if that helps, that should set everything to default also. if you can try a different cable also so we can rule out the cable too. hey harley maybe I should try going back to older nvidia drivers, i never thought about that...wouldn't hurt anyway. And nope my motherboard isnt flashed. The funny thing is though that I was just trying a video game, batman:arkham asylum and its crystal clear...I also tried crysis warhead and that seems fine too...just movies are horrible!

Guys I've tried everything except replace the gpu because I dont have a spare one that I can use. I'm pretty sure now that whatever it is is down to the gpu itself...I can't remember if it was always like that though...ive had the ds rig since february, this is the first time I've actually tried a movie in it lol Its weird cause gaming seems to be perfectly fine...I'll the try the physX driver and let you know! Though I doubt that will make a difference as nothing else has...I just thought of something, my gpu is overclocked, I did it myself, but maybe the problem lies there?.Do you guys think there is a problem with these precision settings? Core Clock-684 Shader Clock-1380 Memory Clock-1119 Fan Speed=85%...everything runs pretty good, I've never had a problem with crashes or anything, but maybe one of those clocks are too high or too low? I'm just starting to learn about gpus and stuff, so any info I receive is well appreciated! Thank you for all the replies so far guys
