I ordered my PC a while back, it isn't a "beast", but it is the highest quality Gaming PC I can afford right now. (Lynx level 3)
When it arrived, I was super excited! So I unbox it, hook it up, and... NOTHING. No power to any peripherals at all. Box lit up, fans were running, and nothing.
It is Thanksgiving Day, y'all. We call customer service expecting to get a canned answer from a robot about calling during normal business hours. To my amazement, not only did we get a human, that man worked with my son and I for probably 2 hours trying to find out what went wrong and why we weren't getting any power. We did everything under the sun, but wound up having to return the computer to them. My (hopefully) fixed computer is on it's way to me now, and will arrive on Christmas Eve. I'm super excited about this!

I'm just a customer like you, but I hang out here because I like the company, the product, and I was helped by some very nice guys who preceded me.
I just want to say your attitude is a refreshing change from the all the whining coming down here lately. If you did not know for sure, your rig developed an issue in shipping out of DS's control, or some finicky chip somewhere decided to give it up on the spur of the moment. They not only establish the fact everything is working through the stress-testing phase before it leaves the building, they also have photos of the interior and exterior of every build to establish it was perfect when it shipped. It always hurts me a little whenever a rig arrives DOA, because it's also my nightmare. I've not had trouble through three DS builds. Good QS and a tiny bit of luck. Problems with DS systems are less than 1.5%, and I tend to think that's pretty good considering electronic parts can decide not to work for no reason at all, and shipping can be pretty rough. I have every expectation your Lynx will work out of the box this time, and keep going for a very long time. You are right to be excited. I regret your hassle, but thanks again for turning it into a positive critique. Too many impatient souls here discounting the miserable supply chain issues all over from the pandemic, the botch job from AMD and Nvidia not being ready for the demand, workforce issues, fires threatening the workers and their families. Not to mention the issues some at DS have had with covid in their own families, and having to work from home and miss days from quarantines. Everyone is me, me, me; what about me? Well, just maybe it's not the best plan to want to elbow everyone else out of your way when we're all in the same boat. Uhhh... sorry! Thanks again for being upbeat. Kinda made my day.

What Cretae said. Look, DS has been around for a long time and have always had a solid reputation. Unfortunately, things happen in shipping sometimes.... plus all the things mentioned by Cretae. I too went through the RMA process as mine arrived not wanting to boot up. Damage from shipping. All you can do is give DS a chance to make it right, and that is where they are far above other PC builders. Best of luck and here's hoping you and yours a great Christmas and a working PC.

I actually think I know what happened. It was most likely during shipping. The way the CPU fan is bracketed around, but not permanently attached to the heat sink is the most likely culprit here. It was loose in the box and free floating when we unboxed it. I would imagine it did some damage during shipping. (That's just my opinion, I'm certainly no expert.)
I have never understood why people are whiny jerks when stuff happens like this. It obviously isn't DS's fault, and thus far I have no reason to complain. My disappointment isn't justification for being a poopyhead to anyone. As for the ones whining because their computer hasn't shipped yet and is stuck in phase 1... did they not read the part where it will be 5-6 weeks before they ship it? My son considered a DS build, and when I pointed that out to him he changed his mind and went with a different system that was ready to be shipped. (Another good company, downside being that *I* will have a three year warranty, and he will only have a one year warranty, but that's on him.) I keep tracking my puter... 2:47am TRACY, CA Arrived at FedEx location Not sure where that is... but it is closer to me today than it was yesterday! I shall monitor my precious daily, and pray she makes it here unscathed by the rigors of FedEx shipping handlers. GO LITTLE LYNX GO! Come to Mama!

It certainly beats anything I've ever built before. (Yes, I build my own most of the time.) Compared to some of the builds DS has available? It is !!
But I it, regardless of how meager it seems in comparison to the "big boys". After all, I mostly play World of Warcraft. Anything much more powerful than this would be like using a flamethrower to light birthday candles.
Oh, and thanks for the email response. :) |
