Hi guys, I've been trying to build a new pc cause the one I'm using currently is outdated. This is going to be a gaming pc only for me, and I'm trying to get some stuff in here like the 1000w power supply in case I decide to go SLI later on down the road. Any suggestions to make this any better for now? I'm kind of on a budget, and this seemed feasible for me but any help would be appreciated.

Since you mention that you are on a bit of a budget, you can save some by not getting the SB Audigy sound card. It doesn't sound as good as the onboard sound on my budget mobo, so your onboard will also likely be better. Since you are using it for playing games only, do you need two optical drives? If you don't need a full 500 Gb HDD, you could save a bit there, but I'm not sure what your needs are. What types of games do you play? What is your general budget?

well at first it was gonna be a 2000-2300 dollar budget, so i figured i could build something that would last me a while. i got my 600 dollar check in from the government and figured if i have to use it for the pc i will. i play stuff like eq2 and wow and i would play more fps but as it is my pc is on the fritz with eq2. I have to run it pretty low to play it decent. I was hopin to build a pc that will be awesome to run warhammer online and anything else that would come out that is good.

sorry aint been on in a bit, but i messed with the configurator a bit and i thought this build http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=162004 might be pretty decent for the gaming i wanna do. i put the 1k psu on there just in case i wanna go sli in a couple years down the road. also i read the reviews on the ati 4870 card and im kinda torn between it and the gtx 260. i guess i could swap out the 780 mobo and put the x48 in and leave room for a future crossfire build with the 4870... kinda like this build: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=162049 sorry for being a pain. this is my first real gaming pc and i want to be sure im getting something great. nyquil, you pretty much got it right with this build, at least in my opinion
i would only make these changes, and heres why:
dropped in a quad core for that unrivaled processing power
removed the APU, as these are becoming less useful over the stock sound cards
used the money you save on removing the APU for overclocking (if this is something you planned to do on your own, remove the options from CPU and ram but keep stage 3 so you can OC when you get it)
you dont need a 1k PSU, pocket the money from crossfire-ing and step up to the newer, better cards a few months down the road

thanks for the input! i think overclocking scares me a bit, cause i dont know much about it personally. if i get the build you suggested !ender with the processor and memory overclock, will that affect me swapping cards out later on, or if i add another 4870 and do a crossfire set up?

no, overclocking the ram/cpu will not effect the GPU, however if you get a GPU overclock, you will have to tweak your own card upon installing a new one, which im sure youll get help with here and yes you can crossfire later but i always say that i think its much smarter to get a single card, wait a while, then buy a newer, stronger single card. this will always yield better results than SLI.
as far as overclocking i cant tell you how happy i've been with my overclocking exp, i ordered it from DSO but ended up erasing it and doing it on my own. do some reading about it online before you make a decision, but keep in mind that a DSO overclock is covered in your warranty, however if you do it on your own, it will not be Edited by !ender_ - 30 Jun 2008 at 10:03pm |
