Hi all!
MAN I am so excited! I ordered my FIRST PC since 2001 I have been a Mac guy because of my design job since 2002 and never looked back. UNTIL NOW! Got tired of spending a fortune and not enjoying the best games so I bought the Vanquish 7 Level 4 Ultimate! So, is it possible for me to over clock and if so, does Digital Storm include software to do this? Im new to all this. Last PC I had I didnt ever do any custom stuff so... a newbie I am! Anyways, sooooo thankful for Digital Storm! Thanks for any insight! BTW, I am getting the Intel i7 8700 processor. |

Congratulations and welcome to DS. That is a very good system and you will love it. I am the only windows user in my family. As to your query on overclocking (oc). Intel chips that can be overclocked (unlocked) end with the suffix K or X. (You can also overclock non K or X chips but not for the faint at heart. ) You system comes with a non-K chip so it is locked. That said, it is the best chip right now and with the GTX 1080 you will game at max settings on up to a 1440 monitor. Keep us posted.

Yes, your chip is locked, but don't feel bad. We have gotten away from advising overclocking with the i7 8700 just because it's so darn fast and capable for gaming at stock! When the demand is there, it turbos automatically up to 4.6 MHz on the all-important first core, and 4.5 on the second. Rarely do games call on processing from more than 2 cores at once. This is plenty fast for gaming, and overclocking the 8700 is not that beneficial.
Hope it helps. |

AWESOME! Thanks so much for the info! Man I am so excited!
I bought a Asus 27" 2560x1440 monitor. Its a 60 Hz refresh so hopefully this will be super smooth! I realize now the higher the refresh the better (duh) so i'll upgrade the monitor later. So glad I found Digital Storm! |
