This is what I'm looking at right now. I have some questions as I am not familiar with the insides of computers.
What is the difference between the lynx, lumos and velox cases? I can put all the same pieces in them but they are priced different. What is the difference between the i7 14700kf and the i9 14900k? if I dont need the extra USB slots, are the 790s still better than the 760s? Is 750w enough power to run 2 monitors? Im trying to get a good computer on a budget. I have general use nothing really taxing like video or audio editing but I do need lots of storage like the separate 4TB SSD. Neither of the monitors is in 4k so thats not a worry. heres what i have so far Chassis Model: Digital Storm Lumos Processor: Intel Core i7-14700KF (5.6 GHz Turbo) (28-Thread) (20-Core) 3.4 GHz (14th Gen) Motherboard: ASUS Prime B760M-A AX D5 (Wi-Fi) (Intel B760) (Up to 3x PCI-E Devices) (No SLI) (DDR5) System Memory: 32GB DDR5 5200MHz Kingston FURY Beast RGB Power Supply: 750W Digital Storm Performance Series (80 Plus Gold) Storage Set 1: 1x SSD M.2 (1TB Digital Storm M.2 Performance Series) (NVM Express) Storage Set 2: 1x SSD M.2 (1TB Samsung 990 PRO) (NVM Express) Storage Set 3: 1x SSD (4TB Samsung 870 EVO) Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Graphics Card(s): 1x GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER 12GB (VR Ready) Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black (Extreme Performance) Cable Management: Premium Cable Management (Strategically Routed & Organized for Airflow) Internal Lighting: Remote Controlled Advanced LED Lighting System (Multiple RGB Color Modes) Chassis Fans: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11 Home (64-Bit) Recovery Tools: USB Drive - Windows Installation (Format and Clean Install) Virus Protection: Windows Defender Antivirus (Built-in to Windows) Warranty: Life-time Expert Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty (3 Year Labor & 1 Year Part Replacement) |

You've done well. Lumos is an excellent case, and very popular here. Just a couple of things I think you should think hard on. CPUs have run way out in front of basic computing needs and very strong gaming perfromance. Bench marks show the 14600KF to be just 5% behind the 14700KF which has nothing to add to gaming and routine computer use.But 4% AHEAD of the top 12900K CPU of just 2 generations ago. IMHO, the 14600KF is all you will need for years to come and saves $179. Take $83 of that and invest in the Asus 790-P D5 mobo. It's not all about interface slots. Better motherboards are fairly well known for better heat management and other features that will generally mean a longer useful life.
Put the rest into an 850W DS power supply. More overhead is always better, and an 850 will give you more options to upgrade video and add other things for the life of this rig. The $$ trade-off is almost a complete wash, and you will have a stronger, more versatile build. All the rest is just what I might recommend given your use. I love that cooler. That video card very strong for 1440p monitor(s). If you don't already have them. |
