I have the Corsair 650D case with three case fans attached to a three position switch. Until recently they always started whenever the power switch was depressed. Now I have to nudge them and then they spin at the speed set on the switch. Any ideas? This occurs now when the cpu sleeps, or powered up. I have had the DS computer for less than a year and all was well until a couple of weeks ago.

A guess would be the fan control is going bad. These fan controls and the ones on the ODE's 600T aren't all that great from what I've heard and seen myself. Either a new fan control or just using a 3 pin to 4 pin connector and going to 4 pin peripheral cables from the psu is the fix. You might also be able to plug them into CHA_FAN connectors on mobo.
The chance of all the fans going bad is remote, but you can always check them by using a 3-4 pin adapter or mobo headers. If its less than a year, you should be under DS warranty. Not sure what they'll do. Good luck. Edited by bprat22 - 02 Sep 2012 at 8:33am |

Hi gojones,
What setting do you have your switch? If it is low or medium? Does it start when you move the switch to high? If it doesn't work on any setting it is the switch or the wiring going to the switch or fans. Do you have a VOM? You can remove the molex plugs and check the voltage from the power supply, to the switch and to the fans. Read the voltage coming to the switch and then through each setting of the switch. You should get a different output reading on each setting of the switch. Frank |

If the fans are at a low speed, they simply may need that extra kick to start, over time the bearings or the fans may have gotten some dust or aren't as free spinning so that low fan setting isn't enough to start the fan blades until they have built up some momentum?
If the fans still don't spin even at medium, we can definitely help you replace the fan controller unit. |

Guys, I feel really dumb. I have been working on this problem for about three weeks. The fans needed a nudge on all three settings. Today, after googling for weeks, I decided to clip the zip tie and was going to unplug the connections and plug into the motherboard. After clipping the zip tie and then untangling the cords, I decided to give it one last power up. La La, all three fans started. I think that at some point I had removed the cover and when I put it back on, I crimped the cable(s). I did go ahead and put the two 200mm fans on the motherboard chassis connectors. That way I can monitor with the ASUS software.
Thanks again, and yes I was beginning to think the Cosair fan controller was going bad. |
