I don't know if this has been posted before, but no one told me during my technical crisis to look out for it. When you enable sli, the nvidia program will ask you to close some programs such as msn messenger. I guess this is because of some incompatiblilty. Since this window does not appear when disengaging sli, it was only by getting a blue screen that I found an incompatibility on my own. Windows will crash, at least for me, if Steam is still syncing a game and you try to get out of sli. Ever since I wait for the cloud sync to finish I have no problems. I just wonder if this problem will happen with EA's Origin cloud syncing.
I hope this post keeps people from fretting if a blue screen occurs in this circumstance.

Interesting, I just tested this out and did not get a blue screen. I'm wondering what is causing the difference in results.

Very interesting. I have not run into that issue with any of my previous SLI builds.
Would be curious to see the possible reasons explained.

This problem has shown another variation. Last night, I waited for Skyrim to finish its synching with the cloud. Then there was a Steam cllient update. I made sure, or so I thought that Steam was closed before I disabled sli. All of a sudden the computer froze, restarted, and had a screen like safe mode. It took me a few times to figure out what was wrong. Windows had disabled both of my video cards. I had to go into device manager and re-enable both cards before things went back to normal. Any ideas out there about what's going on? The only other game I have active on Steam is Metro 2033 but this game doesn't go through the synching so I can only say this problem happens with Skyrim.Upset

Yes, I have run into this problem in the past. I don't remember if using a driver cleaner solved the problem before installing the new one. Or upgrading my 8800 GTX to GTX 285 did something. The newer software updates under custom will allow you to do a clean install.

*Don't laugh a my puny video cards. I hope to have my system ordered on Friday when we learn how Windows 8 is released.

Thank you for letting me know that you have run into the same problem. I'm running 2 670's so the problem isn't how powerful the graphics cards are.
