I need help on what I should get for a gaming computer. I'm on a budget, about 1600-1800 dollars. Should I get an i5 machine, or i7? Or even an AMD rig. How much RAM should I get, Stuff like that I really don't know too much about... Even though I am majoring in IT at my tech highschool, I don't really know to much about gaming computers, just how to fix em.

my suggestion
you could easily drop to a 470 to save some coin, or consider going to p55 and save on the mobo/processor to keep the 480 (thats what i would do)

Need to know the resolution you want to game at, and the games you like would be helpful also.
An i5 rig can be a very good gaming platform, with the right supporting parts.

I will be gaming at 1680x1050 or 1920x1200. I usually dont mind smaller resolutions, but my screen is a 1920x1200, so...
Either. And games, Things like Half Life, BFBC2, Source/Valve games, and Various First Person Shooters. I wont be playing things like crysis. Edited by AustinHiggs - 19 Jun 2010 at 7:29am |

The ATI gpu is more suited, I think to your gaming preferences, and cheaper, too. It will support your highest resolution very well. Edited by Cretae - 19 Jun 2010 at 4:04pm |

I can't edit the last so...
I saw you mention an extra DVD and a 1T HDD, so they're in there.
!ender_'s build is higher end, but is over budget and still doesn't give you all you want. When you're playing around with this, do not go back to the P55M mobo, it's inferior, and not recommended. You can change just about anything else if you wish. This just gives you an idea how much you can get for your budget. This is a fine 4 core system with great graphics in a great case. If you're just itching to get closer to $1800, the best place to spend more is on the 2/4 warranty.
