Load that number in. See what ya think. I have learned a few things around here so thank others not me.
The change in motherboards will give you a much higher OC speed and it also has a very nice onboard sound. This MB will be a problem if you plan on going SLI in the future.
I would wait to see what other think but I think they will agree with me.

I think that's a great budget build. It hits all the right high notes for value without any extra crap. You could still shave $10 off by ditching the lighting, but tbh, they're fun to look at, and $10 isn't much fat to trim from the build. The only point I am going to raise, is cooling for the 8800 GT series of GPU. A single slot cooling solution sounds great, but they tend to run very hot, even post bios fix. I believe all reference cooling fans for the 8800's have gone to a larger diameter fan, but if you have the room in your budget for the GTS model, that will be more efficient in expelling hot air from your case, which in turn is going to help you keep your other system components cooler (better for stability, and for overclocking if you were planning on doing that yourself). |

You could see if they would be willing to install a high RPM exhaust fan. The rear exhaust is the most important fan in that case. I know they have some favorites they've been trying out. I've been extremely impressed with the Cooler Master 110CFM fan I installed in my case. It dropped my temps down considerably, so I'd have no reservations about recomending the same fan for your build. The LED version is HereIt's offered in a non LED version for the same price if you don't want the blue glow.

havent even bought my system yet!...im definitly buying from here
![]() thx for the info tyler...im thinking about going over budget to the GTS cause ive read a post on here about them having batchs of bad GT cards..even if i went with GTS i wonder would they still install a high RPM exhaust fan anyway if i ask them to..if not i can always get the one you linked later. |

Can anyone tell me if the GTS 512's have the new chip like the 320 does?
cause i read this from a website. Because of the late launch date of the 320MB 8800GTS, Sparkle equipped their cards with newer revision memory chips compared to the ones used on the 640Mb model. Hopefully this provides the tweakers out there with more overclocking headroom. and is it only sparkle that installed this chip? btw what brand of nvidia cards do you guys use? im sorry if im being a pain i just want this machine to be the way i need it to be. |

Digital Storm uses EVGA. Their cards are reference design which are equiped with Qimonda chips.
Don't know which chips sparkle equiped their 8800GTS 320mb with. I know Galaxy equips theirs with Samsung chips. |

That's the wrong GTS. You'd be better off with the 8800GT or even an HD3850 w/ 512MB than one of the G80 8800GTS 320MB cards.
Two other items:
I would get a burner, not just a DVD reader, and I would opt for a floppy drive had I the chance to do my configuration over. There are still some DOS based applications where a bootable floppy is a very handy thing to have. It doesn't come up much, but for $7 I don't see how you can go wrong having one tossed in there.

what a min in a couple of post ago you said dont get the GT now your saying its better?
and i checked out the video comparison chart and the 320 out done the 640 one not by much but still it did..all because its chip is more up to date. i did ask if the 512 has the same chip but i never got a answer to that so i thought it must not.far as the burner i got two brand new ones here i can put in & floppy drives i got 3 or 4 i can install so im good there. So can anyone answer my question does the 512 have the same chip? if it does then i will go with that one. ![]() |

The whole 8800GT vs. 8800GTS thing: He means the 512MB GTS, not the 320 or 640. The 512s are built on a new chip manufacturing process (same process as the new GT) that boosts their performance greatly over the 320s and 640s. The 8800GTS 512 rivals the GTX as far as performance, and is marginally better than the GT. In my personal opinion, the GT is a better "sweet spot" as far as the price/performance ratio.
The GT has a single slot cooling mechanism, and they do get hot. The GTS has dual slot cooling and is better if you are worried about heat. Edited by Mythius101 - 16 Jan 2008 at 4:28am |
