Just when you want to take advantage of DS's really wonderful PM feature...)
In Civ V, Playing as Japanese because they get the Zero with no resource (oil) needed, can't build a Zero because I need oil... Huh?! I'be been google searching and discord bouncing and even on Civ Forums but I can find no answers... is this something that you're aware of? |

I haven’t played as Japanese, but, yes, you need to research and then find oil to build certain aircraft, etc. It does make sense, kinda like real life.
If your next question is, how to research oil, the tech tree shows the path to all techs. You can research one tech at a time, or go way down the tech tree, select oil and the game sets up a path to get there. Hope this helps. If the confusion is about not needing oil because the Zero is a special bonus to the Japanese empire, then I think your reading it wrong. The bonus Zero just means only the Japanese get it. |

Haven’t never played as the Japanese, I google the Zero and oil and some hits said it doesn’t need the oil tech to build. I don’t have Civ 5 on my pc so can’t check the tech tree.

Just fired up Civ 6 on my PC , selected Japanese, and the Zero isn’t there. Just Fighters. But, the tech tree shows oil isn’t needed for any aircraft. You need aluminum. Oil is needed for destroyers, etc.
Love this game. Cive 6 has an add on in 2 weeks that introduces, floods, rising seas, and other natural disasters. How environmental friendly your civilization is determines how bad Mother Nature slams you. |

One of the perks for playing Japanese is the unique fighter (Zero) that uses no resources (oil) as per the documentation. There is a bug that, yes, you need oil for a Zero.
Now, after 2 or 3 marathon Civ V sessions where I get my **** handed to me, on one of the lower levels (warlord), I see that Civ 6 is offered on a loyalty plan at only $20 for the game and all DLC. That's just what I need, not only the other civs kicking my bottom, but you say now Mother Nature can do it, too? Oh boy. |

As far as getting your butt handed to you, yes, Civ games can be tough even on mid levels. A lot of depth, plus where you start and what Civ the computer puts near you can make all the difference.
I have known within 50 moves that my game was hopeless and I just start over. A warrior Civ near you early on can wreck you early. Civ 6 is great. Playing Australia is one of my favorites, mainly because you start on your own continent, usually, and have time to build a bit before facing the world. Waiting anxiously for the Feb 14 release of the new add on. Might have to put Xcom 2 on hold for awhile. Most of my wins have been the space race. I don’t into the religious perks. I always turn off the time limit win. Have fun. |

Most of my wins (as few and far between as they are) have been domination, followed by exploration (space). Culture and religion are just... meh... and time is a waste of time.
Australia, you say... hmmmm..... I just might have to take a look. I do have another question... do you rush the GLibrary? If so, what's the secret? Even at lower levels the AI is about 2 or more turns ahead of me. |

Depends on the level. I played a lot of Civ 5 on Prince level...just more enjoyable, and with my civ being America, had no problem getting Great Library, Oracle and others. No rushing, just plodding along. Civ 6 ....getting wonders has been a lot more challenging. Even though they give good bonus, esp. GL, I don't aim for them, just pick a city to build them as soon as they become available. |
