So i am wondering what a good utility is to clean up your system and keep it running smoothly. I have tried several, with mixed results. While many offer registery clean up and temp file cleaning, I am trying to find one that hunts down the left over files left after you uninstall some software.
Thoughts?

CCleaner is the best, its not simple for a software to come along and know what you had and what is left over, so I'm not sure if any software does that, and if any claims that they do, I would need to see that for myself.
the left over files are from a bad installer/uninstaller that is not coded properly to grab what it left or what was created. only that uninstaller/installer would know this info, only way I can think of a software that can do what you are asking is if it takes an image of the pc before install and then an image after install/uninstall and then compare and remove the difference. DST4ME,
I have a friend who has an older computer, and she is stating that its running really slow. I have heard the Registry cleaners are a big help and and I'm a little uncertain if this will be a big help for an older computer (7 year old dell)
Also can save all the important files and do a reformat of the hardrive and start fresh.
Any ideas would be greatly appricated

tell her to come here and let me have a look.
registry is not her problem, her problem is that either or combo of below: 1. she does not have enough ram for todays apps that she is running and that could be her av being one of the big ones, specially if its mcafee. 2. she has too many process running in the background she does not need. 3. she has malware she can format but there is no need if we can restore the performance with a little cleaning. |

Thanks DST4ME,
Could I install my hardrive (as a secondary drive) that has all my Anitivirus and cleaning programs and run it though the processes?
that would be the easiest way for me.

No you can't run a HDD what has windows on it, on a seperate system, it will not boot and there is a good posibility that the boot sector of it will be destroyed so that the os that is already on the system can read the new HDD.
so don't do it. she has av right? if not use the eset smart security 30 day free trial. ESET Smart Security, it has a 30 day full free trial, I love it and highly recommend it. |

My pleasure
but listen she still needs to come here so I can ask her to run some apps and get the results, checking system with a good av like eset is only the first step. once we know pc is clean, we need to look at the processes running in the background. post her specs and os also if you can.
