Hey there all, just a few questions I hope can get cleared up. My first question is probably a stupid one but what do the black UV tubes look like under UV light? Are there any pictures up of them? I've scoured the forums searching and have yet to find any pictures of rigs sporting them and UV (that I could identify at least). Personally I think they look pretty darn clean under normal light but they’ll be spending most of their time in a darkened room so how they look under the glow effect matters even more.

I’m curious because I am planning on eventually ordering a rig from DS once the money has been accrued and I’ve learned that technology changes far too rapidly to ever plan ahead for what you want to buy. So to bide my time I’m trying to figure out what I want in terms of the case, color schemes and such. Ideally I’m going for a black case with a red glow, something nice and sinister looking. Case wise I’m pretty won over with the Hailstorm, I know it’s expensive but the lines and angles on it are too seductive to ignore and I’m not a huge fan of the HAF cases in appearance. Since I’m planning on a liquid cooling system anyway the airflow advantages of the HAF are less critical as well.

But for the glow I was planning on going with upgraded red LED fans. I’ve heard numerous reports of them being loud but that honestly doesn’t matter to me. I work in a lab with the most god-awful screeching equipment running 24-7 (including that damnable high frequency range that makes you cringe). So yeah, whining, whistling and whirring won’t bother me. Actually anything short of a jet on takeoff is acceptable in terms of noise. But enough mindless rambling, would that provide an adequate red glow? If so it might look cool with the glowing black tubes (assuming they have a nice look when they glow) but if that isn’t enough red it’d be just as easy to go with red UV tubes instead.

Another little curiosity is the memory fan, so far all I’ve seen of them is them glowing blue but on DST4ME I saw what looked like a red memory fan. Is this just a trick of the lighting, a different memory fan or something else entirely?

One more question and then my long spiel of longness will end. What kind of radiators can you fit with a hailstorm case? I know there’s space for a triple radiator at the top and you could mount a quad on the back, but would there be any way to mount two quad radiators on it or would that require cutting up the case and heavy modification?

And if anyone has any suggestions for how to follow the black and red scheme please share because the more you know the better the decisions you can make.

You could always ask them to install extra red cathode tubes lights.

I don't know, but I would guess that black tubes light up purple under UV light.

You can get ones that glow red though if you want.

i was thinking of going black and red as well. i'm going to be a Sith Warrior in SWTOR so i might as well go all the way...lol. buuuut i plan on buying the assassin case. i don't know what it is but i just have a major chubby for that case and have been wondering what it would like like with some red cathodes in there.

it would be badass if DS had some type of configurator that showed the different colors on their cases. i know alienware used to have something like that on their site.

the probelm with uv is that it depends on low light surroundings
so it will look cool in the dark dark, but not most game with at least a lamp or TV on, check out my "prime" build in the general forums to see red, blue, green, and every combination of the 3
i personally think that it is much cooler to have a choice then to invest heavily in one thing looking good... becuase even if it does, everyone likes a little change now and then
