This is the configuration I have settled on.
I just wanted to get your opinions on whether I have chosen a good one for a $2000 budget. http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=525405 I already have a monitor, mouse, keyboard, gaming pad, and headphones ready for the new PC. Budget: $2000 Expectations: I need this PC to play current and future games such as: Crysis2, Dragons Age 2, Portal 2, FF14, TERA, The Secret World etc etc on Medium to High Settings on Resolutions of upto or around 1680x1050 (that may change when I get a better monitor in a couple years) (stable framerates of 30 - 60 or better are needed) I also need this configuration to last for at least 3-5 years, while still being able to maintain at least medium settings on 1680x1050 res for games coming out in those 3-5 years. (SLI is an option at a later date) (3D gaming may be desired at a later time as well) Usage: About 80% Gaming, MMO's and Single Player games, probably not much in the way of team based FPS etc. The rest is mainly Web Surfing, Watching Blueray/DVD movies and perhaps some minor photo/video editing. Special Needs: I desire a decent amount of internal lighting, I like to keep it very dark in my home when playing games, and lighting effects help offset my lack of backlit keyboard etc. I prefer a pretty silent machine, that said, my wall mounted air conditioner is pretty loud, So all I really need is to ensure that the machine is quieter than that, though quiet without the a/c being on is also good. It can get dusty in my home from time to time especially during the summer, I prefer the system take in less dust or at least be semi easy to clean, I don't require this, but it would be nice. I think that is everything I wanted to say, Thanks for your time, I look forward to reading your comments. |

Looks pretty good to me.
only thing I could think of was perhaps dropping back to the i5-2500K and then going up to the GTX580. comes out to $2000 exactly. http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=525419 main diff between the 2600 and 2500 is the hyperthreading and I am seeing much better OC's from the 2500's than the 2600's. End of the day, not a lot separates them but the hyperthreading and the GTX580 is a bit better card than the 570. either way you go will meet your needs i think though. |

You can upgrade gpu at any time easily, cpu upgrade change is not that easy for most, its always best to go with the most powerful brain you can get, and upgrade gpu and etc later. A 2600k will stay more powerful than a 2500k in the next 3 to 5 years to come.
as far as one overclocking better than the other, each chip is different, but if you want to sacrifice performance you can disable HT in 2600K and get even higher ocs, but who wants that, for ocs here below 4.7GHz, you won't notice which ocs better anyways, personally on oc forums I find 2600K oc the same but with higher performance. @ 1600 x 1200, you won't notice the difference between 570/580. go with this instead: Here you go Ticket# 525452 --- $1926 (To see this build click here) Copy of Specifications: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Cooler Master 942 HAF X Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz (Unlocked CPU for Extreme Overclocking) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 (Intel P67 Chipset) (New B3 Revision) (Does Not Support SLI) System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 750W Corsair TX (Dual SLI Compatible) Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (1TB Western Digital Caviar (7200 RPM) (64MB Cache) (Model: Black Edition WD1002FAEX) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: Blu-Ray Player/DVD Writer (Play Blu-Ray and Burn DVDs) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 1.2GB (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 1: Noctua NH-U12P SE Dual 120mm Fans High Performance Cooler H20 Tube Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Green) Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks Boost Processor: FREE: Overclock the processor between 3.6GHz to 3.9GHz Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows 7 CD) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: FREE: Starcraft II (Tryout Edition) with a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 or above graphics card Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: Logitech 2 Piece (Black Edition) Amplified Speaker Set Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty now keep in mind this system can't do sli. you have chosen green light but all of these cases haf 942/932/922 have a red led front fan, the haf x (942)/922 has a switch to turn it off.
