Compatability Question

Hey guys!

So I have a couple questions that hopefully you guys can shed some light on!

So I've been trying to learn more about the internal components of my computer (and others in general) as I'm trying to figure out some upgrades for my own PC at the moment. I find the one thing I have trouble with is understanding what is compatable with my current Mobo and other things about it, like the number of PCI slots etc. I was wondering if there is an easy site that I could use to check the compatability between parts in my PC and upgrades I am interested in, or if there is any software to do so. I am aware that there is CPU-Z and what not to see my current specs.

My next question is, I have been looking to upgrade my RAM as mine is not functioning the greatest at the moment. Upon further inspection it turns out of the pins are destroyed :( (Assuming because I failed to pack it well enough when I moved XD) SO I was looking at some RAM options and I think I have been in favour of some Corsair Dominator Platinum RAM, ( http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233305 ). Anyone have any thoughts on the RAM or could give me some advice on why this RAM would be a bad or good choice? Also if anyone has any other suggestions that would be nice as well!

Sorry for the lengthy post, but I would just like to understand more about my PC to help me further down the road.
