Hello guys
I need help about the parts for my system. First my specs: Corsair Obsidian 800D (Hailstorm) EVGA X58 3x SLI Classified I-7 920 Sapphire HD 5870 Corsair Dominator 1600 MHz (3x2Gb) Corsair HX 1000W LG LED Flatron W2486L 2ms, 24". HDD is irrelevant I want the following stuff water cooled: Motherboard: Chip set & the other thing(forgot name) CPU GPU (I see no reason to water cool the RAM) I was thinking of complete koolance parts. Is this more expensive? If someone could give me an approximate price range of what it will cost, and maybe the different price ranges that the different brands would give. I pretty much want the kick ass ones, I think koolance is the one to go with. So if someone could just give me the list of all the parts I need. I would really appreciate it. I want white hoses. I'm not a fan of flashy stuff. So a black & white combo would be nice. |

are you planing on building this LC system yourself or from DS?
ocing the mobo is pointless. just oc the cpu and if you really need it the gpu, otherwise the gpu is not necessary either. koolance is definitely not the way to go. |

aight...first, understand how massive liquid cooling's cost is...
I've managed to construct a pretty decent CPU loop, and the lowest price I can get the whole setup to be is $308. that's JUST for the CPU. if you add on GPU and mosfet, you'll probably have a $500 system. if you want DUAL LOOP, one for the cpu/mosfet, one for the GPU, you're looking at about a $800 or more setup. (I second what DST4ME says, cooling the mobo is pointless, as well as overclocking RAM) so, are you sure you're ready to spend this much? For brands, here's some tips I've acquired -NEVER EVER USE THERMALTAKE -Swiftech makes pretty damn good CPU waterblocks (see Apogee XT) -Koolance seems to make pretty decent quick releases -Danger Den usually offers part constructions where you can't find them anywhere else First off, I need to know. Do you want a loud but effective system, or a quiet, low profile system? And, do you want kick-ass, or cost-effective, or somewhere in between? (A thing to note about low profile rigs - Having a kick-ass cooling system usually means mounting an exterior radiator, which doesn't always look too appealing from the behind, heh. what? I'm an aesthetics guy) ALSO. How big of an overclock do you want? Edited by ablahblah - 17 Apr 2010 at 6:36pm |

aight, so you were planning to mount the CPU rad on the top exhaust, right? that's doable...
now...for the GPU...your only other exhaust fan is your fan on the side....it's a bit risky to use all your fans for exhaust/radiator, but it's doable i guess... do you want quick releases? (it'll bump up your pricing at least $150 or so) do you want quiet and low profile, or possibly loud but kickass? |

4GHz you can get on that H50, currently mine is at 3.9GHz on an H50.
To be honest unless you have tons of cash to throw away, I wouldn't bother watercooling the system at all. A single loop CPU + GFX is going to be around $500-$600 depending on brands, what type of tube, what type of barbs, etc. Personally I would get another 5870. I have tons of cash to throw away. So it isn't really a problem lol.
I want to water cool the chip set because it looks cool. I want white tubes, and white fans, no lights though. So, north bridge & south bridge, and the opther mobo chip thing + cpu would be the best. (With 2x 5870 air cooled) |

I don't see how I am "destroying" your thread... just figured it would be better to make a separate post in the appropriate thread for the overclocking portion. I don't know enough about the liquid cooling components to guide you there. |

he is right, a seperate thread is best, justin will probably be the one to help you if he has time, I'm not as good and I don't know how he has the patience to go thru so many pages of posts, for me if the pc is not in front of me I don't want to mess with it, plus justin is a benchmarker and not just any, he is one of the top guys so he knows how to oc best better then many many people, including myself, I have not even had a chance to mess with i7 yet.
so in short post a seperate thread and ask justin to help you, he has template he posts for everybody he helps so that they can post their bios settings, read of those threads that is asking for help in oc, you will see justin post the template and ask the user to fill it, get that template and post it in your thread with your bios settings, so that its easier on him. of course you can always call DS and ask them to help you get to 4GHz also. |

@Ambidex if Justin is busy you might try the EVGA forums too. They have a lot of knowledgable people willing to help others with EVGA boards. On their X58 mobo section their is a few overclcoking guides that are really worth reading just so you get the idea of what someone that is helping you will be asking you to do, with settings and so forth.
Also, like Venom said you can go pretty high on the cooler you have with push/pull and spend a ton less or put that money into different areas. Alot of people on the EVGA forums have that H50 cooler and really like it.

The real only reason you wouldn't go with an H50 is that if you wanted a freaking insane overclock at +4. The H50's single rad is usually enough to net a 3.8Ghz, building your own LC loop for about $300 more just to add an extra radiator will net you about a 4.2 overclock or so.
In addition, I read in your other thread that your 920 isn't OC'd at all. Most CPUs come out of the factory at a slow speed so it can fit every application and be stable. Big, spacious gaming PCs often have a crapload of airflow, so they're usually capable of getting a nice overclock without any cooler modifications at all. Also, is the reason you want liquid cooling because your computer is too slow? If so, describe what exactly you mean. If programs that are opened up simply run slow after they open up, then you might be on the right track. However, if startup is slow, or programs and games open up slow, then you probably just need a hard drive upgrade. The hard drive speed is often completely overlooked, and having a superior SSD will boost performance greatly. Edited by ablahblah - 20 Apr 2010 at 5:24pm |
